Neri was a cold-blooded killer, but that look on his face after Michael gives him "the look" clearly shows that even he was shocked by what Michael was asking him to do.

While hugging Freddy, Michael is glaring at Al Neri and saying with no words... "Get it done."

High Level gangster bosses never have to explicitly say: "Kill him" ....instead, they look at their soldier and give him a silent command.

That glare from Michael to Neri...spine-chilling...No words spoken...just get it done....Even Neri was stunned for a second...MOST MIND BLOWING SCENE IN CINEMATIC HISTORY EVER!!!

Michael was such a machiavelian, no forgivenes, no feelings....i think vito would be furious for this. If this happened to Vito he would have exiled his brother...thats how ruthless Mishael was!!

The synthesis of the look from both Michael looking down in pity and Fredo looking up in hope and the face grab by Michael and the hug followed by the next look to Neri was possibly the best confluence of acting without speaking and music that I have ever seen. This was magnificent movie making and I doubt that we will ever see it again, ever.

You know for a smart guy like Michael Corleone he sure can be stupid because later he's gonna regret this for there rest of his life. I mean killing Fredo isn't really gonna make anything better even for Michael. Its just gonna bring more pain and because of that Michael lost his whole family. Like Vito always said "A man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man"

For a moment I thought that he forgive him, but those eyes...

You know personally i always thought that the reason why Fredo was so distraught at Mama Corleone's funeral is because He was grieving His Mother, but at the same time He was also fearful because He knew that with their Mother dead there was NO ONE to stop Michael from taking His revenge

What if Mama Corleone had lived to be a hundred? That would mean Michael would have to wait another thirty or forty years before killing Fredo. At that point he might not have cared anymore. Or would he have killed him while she was alive and staged it as an accident?

0:43-0:50 Michael is essentially saying goodbye to Fredo…

The theme playing is used exclusively in the Vito flashback scenes, except for this scene. It makes the audience hopeful that Michael is finally exhibiting the magnanimity of his father. The music then switches to the eerie Godfather theme of treachery and deceit as he glares at Neri, and our hopes are dashed.

"Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer". He never intended to make up with Fredo. But just as with Hyman Roth, he needed Fredo to feel a false sense of security so that he could take his revenge. Also, by participating in a public reconciliation in front of everyone they knew, his death would seem coincidental instead of orchestrated by Micheal.
