Tech Transfer 101 is a 3-part webinar series for university administrators with a small or unestablished Technology Transfer Office (TTO) in the Southeast IDeA-States (AR,KY,LA,MS,PR,SC,WV). The series addresses best practices for accelerating tech transfer and commercialization without a fully resourced office.

Focus:
Session #1: Bare minimum services and recommended initiatives for building a successful Tech Transfer Program - July 29, 2020
Session #2: Strategies for engaging with Faculty - Aug 12, 2020
Session #3: Strategies for engaging companies with researchers and entrepreneurs - Aug 26, 2020
Details: Each session includes a ~25-min viewing of a portion of the AUTM webinar recording Bridging the Gap Between Innovation and Tech Transfer followed by a curated panel and open discussion with attendees led by Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC), Executive Director Ian McClure, University of Kentucky; OTC Director, Allyson Best, The University of Mississippi and David Gulley, Founding Director of the TTO of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology, and Research Trust, a regional TTO serving the island’s public and private universities.

Discussions topics include:

· Why innovation and commercialization culture is so important to research AND teach-first universities;
· How to build a commercialization culture utilizing available resources;
· Ways to offer IP & tech transfer support and/or services utilizing available resources;
· How to protect intellectual property in a very economical manner;
· Creating opportunities for entrepreneurial faculty with limited resources; and
· The advantages/disadvantages of the various ways tech transfer offices are structured within universities and how they interact with their incubators, faculty and students.
