M1 iPad Pro VS iPad Air

Now that the iPad Air uses the 2nd generation Apple pencil it's hard to see the differences between the Air and the iPad pro. But now the Pro has that super powered M1 chip we have seen in the Macbooks and iMacs. The 12.9" Pro also has the Liquid Retina XDR display that uses mini LEDs in the screen. Does that make it that much better than the iPad air?

Also keep in mind the base iPad Air only has 64 gigs of storage while the Pro has 128. There's no 128 gig Air and the 256 gig + pencil goes for 880$ for but for 930$ you can get the 11' iPad pro and the Apple pencil. I feel the better specs are worth the extra 50$

Hearing 3D rendering and video editing in the same sentence as iPad is crazy

Love your content. Videos like this really helped me think about what I needed and wanted in an iPad as a new digital artist. I am pleased to say that I’m 100% happy with my new iPad Air and I especially love the green colour! Thank you for helping me start my digital art journey.

Don't forget storage size! The $599 iPad Air is 64GB and it skips to 256GB which is $750. I would rather pay another $50 for the 11inch iPad Pro 128GB instead as it has enough space and better features than that of the iPad Air 256GB.

Update: Keep on the lookout for sales or holidays. I just saw the Air 256GB go for $549 where I live. They were out of stock when I found out sadly.

Hey Brad
Three words for you.
“You make sense”.
I’ve been trying to look out for a normal use case scenario for my basic needs and wanted a comparison between the iPad Air and the 2021 11” iPad Pro, even though from a non-artistic perspective. You are the one who has talked the sense I needed to hear and not tried to fulfil my need for validation to spend more.
Thank you man! Take care.

Some people can tell 60 and 120 HZ apart easily, some can't. Go to a store and experience a high refresh rate display (iPad pro or the many Android devices) for yourself if/when it's safe.

As much as i love my mini, there are plenty of times where i say “Damn if only i had a bit more space” granted i can crop it down to fit, and zoom back in when need be, but to have the extra screen real estate is a big help.
On the flip side, the mini has helped train me to better utilize my space on a smaller screen, something ive struggled with for a long time. And the portability is unreal. I can literally put it in my pocket and go.

I recently got myself the ipad air 4 gen, upgraded from the ipad air 3. The main reasons was for the usb c port and the apple pencil changes. Software wise nothing has changed from one to the other. I did consider getting myself an ipad pro 11 gen but after some thought what was being offered Face ID 120hz screen lidar and is nice no doubt but to me they're more like sprinkles. They're not really needed for the drawing experience unless you're using your ipad for more like gaming. Also the air has sweet colours. The blue was nice in store.

Hi may i request if you can create a video, to which between the ipad air 4 and 11” M1 ipad pro will last the best, considering the upcoming updates, for the next few years

5:18 I went to BestBuy to test the sky blue iPad Air 4 in person. For additional reference, here's the layer limits I found for other canvas sizes in Procreate...

3500 x 2625 (over 3K): max of 54 layers
4096 x 2160 (standard for 4K movies): max of 56 layers
4500 x 3375 (higher than standard 4K): max of 31 layers
4900 x 6000: max of 14 layers

I set the DPI to 300 also which is really good for printing your work, and it had no affect on the layer limit. Hope this helps even more 😄

Rocking the Air 4. Fast, affordable but a little small on the memory. 4 gb isn't much lol.

Would love to see a video on the "Sidecar" feature working alongside the M1 Macbook Pro! Interested to see if the M1 chips working alongside each other have many/any benefits. I use the Affinity Suite heavily for work. Cheers from the UK! ✌️🇬🇧

The Mini is not ancient in tech years. The Mini and the entry level 8th gen iPad actually both use the same A12 bionic chip. The Mini 5th gen was updated in 2019 and the entry level iPad had an A10X that year and did not get an A12 until 2020.

You talked about the display and how HDR is not relevant without video editing and such.
ON PAPER the iPad Pro has a brighter Screen with a higher Nit count.
Is it noticable in comparison to the Air?
My Wife got the Air and I'm disappointed with the brightness in a lit room. Outside use is not doable in sunlight.

Layer limits are only a problem on certain apps. In apps like Clip Studio Paint, there is no layer limit, add as many as you like until the app starts lagging. On my Galaxy S6 Lite I made detailed landscape drawings with layers as much as 200+ layers, and CSP wouldn't lag, it only affected how fast opening up the CSP file at the start is.

Hey Brad! I don't know if you do this kind of thing, but I would love it if you talked about previous models in a video. Like, would you rather buy Ipad pro 2019 or the newest Ipad air, things like that. Maybe not going into the used market, but on new products from previous generations vs current. Thanks!
