In college, I took an Introduction to Nutrition course that changed my perspective on food and supermarkets. It taught me about the production of foods, the chemicals released by ultra-processed foods that make them highly addictive, and how grocery stores strategically place products to influence consumers to buy items they hadn't planned on purchasing.

I love how she breaks everything down in simplest terms that are difficult to get confused.

I just love it when I see someone making homemade Doritos or other products in their kitchen. It feels a little rebellious knowing we can make what they sell with half the cost and additives.

Something so refreshing about them talking in plain English. Anybody watching this can follow along and understand. Doesn’t reduce either of their credibility.

I appreciated this break down that she did. Made it much easier to understand what to look for and what to avoid.

Spot on! Learned this in one of my food history classes back in culinary school. Ultra processed foods were meant to take out all the good nutrients, and be made to be cheap, taste good, and have you wanting more purely from a psychological POV, that a lot of science went into. A shame really the fast food industry decided to devote their efforts towards profits rather than actually making good/healthy products.

In college, i saw Jillian michaels do a presemtation on general health. She didnt beleive in cheat days because they lead to binging, and to instead eat treats in moderation and to make the treat instead of buying it. If you REALLY wanted that reeses cup, youd still want it after all the effort of making it lol

Another good example would be bread. Bread is technically only 3-4 ingredients (water, flour, yeast, salt). But go to the store and read the food label and it lists at least 20 things. Most things in packages are ultra processed even if you can technically make it at home.

My father got a contract with a cannery in the Midwest and discovered that ONE factory processes the majority of brands of canned vegetables. Regardless of what label you eventually purchased at the store, the contents are the same. Walmart Great Value or name brand Green Giant, they're probably from the same exact factory from the same exact green beans fromthe same exact farms.

The terminology should be prepared and processed. Removes the unnecessary confusion

Ultra processed foods are also highly addictive. Just a bite of a chip and the whole bag is finished. They taste good but are awful.

The break down is very important. Many people are unnecessary avoiding minimally processed foods (bagged fresh spinach, precut fruit, etc) because of the processed label. Convenience is a factor for people and so id much rather see someone go for cut veggies over those veggie puffs thinking they are the same thing.

Most people have a 9th-grade education. We need more facts like this!

Is it just me or does anybody else read the ingredients on the back of products for fun...😅

In Argentina, there’s been an advance in terms of awareness about food and what we eat after they forced companies (through a law) to add black labels to their products that say “This product is high in calories” or “This product contains sweeteners that are not recommended for children.” I believe this was a great way to bring awareness to what we eat and what food contains. It is a law here.
