People don't realize too all the upkeep and maintenance. You may need a new roof, water heater, air conditioner, windows etc. Thats on top of your mortgage payment.

Have a serious meeting with them. Let's hope it's at least 5 of them suckers. Go like: I really want to follow your advice and keep this house. But, I can only do it under 1 condition. Each of you needs to give me $200/month for 2 years. Then we can add the $800.
I bet after this meeting. You will know if you even had a family to begin with. They will most likely not talk to you about this house anymore until you sell it.

I will be paying off my mortgage within the next few weeks. Technically it's not paid off, but it will be within a month.

Knowing this, the house already feels different in a good way.

I've recently noticed lots of folks who have only been in there house a couple years are now selling their houses.

Unless family is paying the mortgage they get zero input on the decision. Set some boundaries. Sell the house and move on and be happy. Don't worry about what the nosy family wants. Better yet sell it and don't tell them where you are moving.

Seems like the house was a bad idea anyways, couldn't afford it before, can't afford it now and can't qualify for a new home loan. This is a blessing in disguise, move into a cheaper apartment and save that money.

Advice for a couple buying their first home. Make sure that EITHER one of you can make the mortgage payment BY YOURSELF. Now, you each write a monthly mortgage check (one with the bank coupon, the other with "for reduction of principle" written in RED INK. You will have a paid-off house in less than 6 years. I've done it twice and the freedom from worry is priceless.
