The emperor tolerated every insult he threw at him. He held back even at the death of Sanguinius and his Custodes. What he could not tolerate was Horus killing his best buddy Olanius Pious. Because that was a natural born human. Not one that was gene enhanced or created by him. It was a human that he was fighting to give a future.

In that moment, it may have been one person standing between the Emperor and Horus, but that human carried the weight of every human who ever was touched by the Emperor, who was ever saved, liberated, bettered. Humanity stood for the Emperor just as he stood for them. When Olanius fell, the Emperor retaliated with the might and vengeance of all those humans, of all humans. In that moment it was Humanity striking a blow against chaos. It was humanity refusing to die. Refusing to submit to Chaos. The Emperor slayed his own son.
