The real reason was he lost his last Stran of hair

He was shown a vision of the future with a whole planet dedicated to worshiping the Emperor as a god while he was scrubbed from history and forgotten. Ironically, the thing that enraged him resulted from his actions.

Horus looked like a golden potential for the evil he eventually committed. My question is how come Big E didn't see it coming? How did Horus become his favorite son?

The vision was a fabrication tho. At the time the emperor was working on the webway project to secure humans passage between the stars without having to risk warp travel.

Why would they not take him to Terra. I’m so confused. Did they not think the Emperor or Malcador could fix him?
“Should we take our Lord father to the emperor? Surely he and the sigilite could wake him and heal him”

“Nah let’s take him to these shady shamans in the swamp”

Ok, so with the probable exception of the thing about the Emperor trying to become a god, most of the stuff he was shown is at least partially true. The Emperor did partially borrow power from the Chaos Gods to create the Primarchs. Given what he did to the thunder warriors when their usefulness to him ended, and his words to Roboute Guilliman in the 42nd millennium, him planning to cast aside the primarchs when they had outlived their usefulness is imminently believable, especially when you consider that Malcador basically said as much in one of the novels. In this particular case, the truth was far more damaging than anything they could make up.

Part of what makes 30k and 40k great is the lack of good guys.

The emperor doing that is believable.

Honestly the orks are the purest race. Clear motivation, just doing what they were created to do.

When I am compering now Horus and Guilliman, I find it almost funny. Horus was shown vision of the Imperium Guilliman needs to deal with now all by himself, yet he doesnt break or give up, even upon words of the Emperor 'My finnest tool'. It's show just how much insecurities Horus had, and using those cracks Chaos has corrupted this otherwise great man

The fall of Horus of so stupid its ridiculous. Horus knew Erebus lied, he knew the Deamon lied, he knew Chaos lied and stil went on to become the biggest idiot after Erebus. I cant take his fall seriously

I like the theory that the Emperor is now a Chaos god of pride.😂

It was also that Horus was shown a future of a church that had glorious statues of all the primarchs and the emperor, however no statue of Horus. He thought that the emperor planned to cast Horus aside and take the credit to everything Horus did on his own as Warmaster. That History would not remember Horus. However it turned out that by trying to prevent this prophecy he ended up fulfilling it.

The most fundamental reason Horus sold out is:😭😭 Daddy doesn't love me any more 😭😭

Unchecked pride and ambition even Konrad called him out for it. Beneath all the teary eyed speeches about the emperor's sins, the desire to sit as the master of mankind was what drove horus in his treacherous campaign.

To be fair, I wouldn't trust him after what he did to the Thunder Warriors either

Horus upon finding out the Emperor doesn't care: "noooo he used us! I must be possesed by the forces of hell and doom all the galaxy!!!"

Guilliman and Jagathai upon finding out the Emperor doesn't care: *pretends to be shocked* "ok bro and?"

So having just read the book where all of this happened, I feel like it's kind of safe to say that Horus just gradually became evil.
I don't know if he actually buys into the deception about the Emperor. He even states at one point that he understand that he's being deceived and will make his choice based on his own desires, not the visions shown him.
Horus also says at one point that the greatest quality he shares with the emperor and the quality that he believes earned him his place as war master was his desire to rule and his ambition. Really I think Horus chose chaos not because of his indignation at the things he's shown, but because he want's power and he wants to be the one standing atop the Empire he believes he was instrumental in building.

It is important to note, the Luna Wolves did not take him to Daven. A special council of Horus's top Astartes (and Erebus) were the only ones that knew Horus was being brought there. Some actually were against it, but Erebus had already planted agents of Chaos in the Luna Wolves to "take care" of dissenters
