Ask me a question:
I'm back from vacation, my mind is well-rested and a video post is long overdue! Today, I look at how to choose the best high-school electives. The topic was brought you by my little sister as she;s wondering what electives to take that will best help her attain her college/university goals. I remember picking the best electives for me back in high school and typically that meant choosing courses that I knew I was good at or interested me. Looking back, I don't think that was the best strategy.
In today's video, I talk about:
- The electives I took when I was in high school
- Electives that are available today
- The best electives to take, which are the ones that complement your skillset
- How your high school electives can actually be a huge help for you in your adult years
Although I didn't get to talk about it this in my video, I'd add physical education onto your list. As someone who was overweight and an asthmatic, I hated PE but in the long term, physical education is essential in teaching you how to use weights, how to do exercises properly and how to play common sports (like volleyball, basketball, etc).
Today's academic society places too much attention on our minds and they are neglecting our bodies. The two are connected and one is not more important than the other - they are both important, so don't ignore your body. Be active and be aware of motion and movement.
I actually explore this topic in more detail in my other video:
"Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Body."
