Imagine if Laufey actually killed Odin in this scene, thinking he's won, only for the most bloodthirsty Asgardian in recent history to bubble into the room and obliterate all of Asgard's rivals, starting with him.

Can we just appreciate how cold and intelligent Loki's plan was?
To gain his adopted fathers love after realizing all he ever was was a political pawn to get the Jotunheim kingdom in line, he set his biological father up and then killed him heroically in his adopted fathers eyes. Then proceeded to commit mass genocide on the frost giants to massively depopulate Jotunheim, both of which solidifying his claim, giving him his throne and ensuring Jotunheim is a loyal member of the 9 realms just as Odin wanted.
I mean say what you will about him, but he played his hand well here. Only thing he didn't account for was Thor.

No doubt! Loki is the rightful king in asgard, he can use odins trident power while thor in the movie Ragnarok only wields the trident but he uses it with no power but as a weapon
