How to Replace Rack & Pinion Assembly 2003-2007 Honda Accord

Показать описание

This video shows you how to install a new rack & pinion assembly from TRQ on your 2003-2007 Honda Accord. The rack and pinion assembly transforms the turning motion of your steering wheel to the push and pull motions that turn the front wheels of your vehicle, as well as adding the power assistance. If the steering rack on your vehicle is leaking, or damaged in some way, you might need to replace it entirely.

This repair was done on a 2006 Honda Accord EX 2.4L Sedan 4-Door FWD Automatic and the process should be similar on the following vehicles:
2003 Honda Accord
2004 Honda Accord
2005 Honda Accord
2006 Honda Accord
2007 Honda Accord

Tools you will need:
• Painter's Tape
• Power Steering Fluid
• Safety Glasses
• Funnel
• Wheel Chocks

Thanks. So far process worked great. Great video. I’m sure it was difficult to capture all the angles. Some of those areas was very hard to get to.

Replacing my 2007 and the pressure lines are both 17. Also didn't need a 24 mm for removing the steering linkage. Was a 19 mm. But my new one came with those and control arms.

The car model here is probably a V6 not a 4-cylinder, as V6 is more complicated. Some key notes:

1) Center the steering wheel/the front wheels and tie down the steering wheel before doing the work. This is to prevent the airbag clock spring from the being damaged if the steering gets turned during the process. (At least, that's my understanding.)

2) Centering the new rack & pinion at 18:47.

3) When putting in the new rack & pinion (at 22:45), make sure the two lines (the high pressure line and the return line) are loosely covered with the plastic cover, then loosely attach the two lines. Then loosely tighten all the nuts and bolts onto the new rack & pinion. Then go back and tighten the two lines' bolts. And finally tighten all the bolts.

4) At 31:10 how to put back the outer tie rods. Looks like in the video he put in the outer tie rod's tiny boot at an angle rather plush onto the flat side of the knuckle. Wouldn't that be a problem?

Great video, better than alldata cause it’s free😂 lock that steering wheel people cause you don’t want to break the clock spring.

So I got a few questions if you don’t mind.
Is this pretty much the same on a 2012 accord?
Can this be done with a couple floor jacks and stands since I don’t have access to a shop car lift?
And that rear sub frame, do you just lower it a few inches or does it come off all the way? And can that be lowered or removed by just having it lifted with floor jacks?
Also when you removed the 17 bolt from the top of the engine bay with that long extender can that be removed from the wheel well like you mentioned about the size 14 bolt can be removed from the side?

Excellent video! Is there a way to verify if either the rack or pump is faulty?

Is this close to the same as the newer 09-10/14 accords/tsx’s with the electric power steering just without the fluid?
