Buttery roll with cinnamon, baked in a milky custard sauce!!

To die for!!

Ingredients

For the Butter Rolls
2 Cups Self Rising Flour 1/2 Cup Milk
2 sticks Butter, softened
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

For the Milk Sauce
2 Cups milk
2/3 Cups Sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

Cut 1 stick softened butter into flour with a fork. Stir in milk.

On a floured surface, dump out dough and press together with your hands to form a ball.

Roll out into a rectangle (about 7×10 in size). Spread softened butter over dough and then sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon over top. Roll it up and press it together lightly.

Cut into nine slices about one inch thick each. Place into a lightly greased 8×8 baking dish.

In medium sauce pot, combine all milk sauce ingredients. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to bubble lightly. Pour over rolls in pan.

Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes, or until rolls are lightly browned on top.

Allow to sit for a few minutes once it is done for the rolls to soak up more sauce. After you put each roll on a plate, spoon more sauce over it and ENJOY!!

Also from Memphis! My aunt makes the best butter rolls I've ever had! She talked me through her recipe before but now I'm ready to make it again. I've searched high and low but this is the only thing I've found that looks like hers! Thank you for sharing such a precious recipe ❤️

My granny used to make this ALL the time for us. She's from Memphis. Her custard was thicker though. We called it sunthin sweet. It brings back very special memories. I miss my granny so much. I can imagine the smell in your kitchen!

My grandmother was from Arkansas. She moved her family to Arizona in the 60's. She use to make this quite often. Only thing, none of us, her kids or grandkids, asked her to teach one of us how to make butteroll. Shes been gone for 11 years now. I'm so happy you did this. I'm trying this for the first time this holiday season. Hopefully I make her proud ❤.

I just happen to stumble across your video and watch it. I will be making this real soon. It looks so delicious. I am also from Memphis, Tenn. My aunt passed away a year ago and she made the best butter roll. I have not had one since. I would like to thank you for the step-by-step play. It gives me something to bring to the table in memory of my aunt. I will let you know how it turns out.

These look delicious! Can you add raisins before you roll the dough up?
I love that you don't edit out any noises from your puppy..you actually make your videos as if we were in your home :) That's what makes you stand out for me. Love everything I've learned. Merry Christmas🌲

I am 68 and live in Ms. My grandmother used to make this and I absolutely LOVED it. But I couldn’t remember how to do it and my mom didn’t remember so I’m SUPER excited to find this. I believe this is exactly the way she made hers. It’s been such a long long time ago! Can’t wait to make it. BTW I have 2 fur babies, a long-hair dachshund and jack russell. They are my spoiled babies.

My Dad made butter rolls .... loved 'em. Never had a recipe. Made everything to taste. I remember watching & remember the basic steps. I cook about the same way he did. My Mom rarely used recipes, except when making Christmas candies ... no margin for error. Good to get a basic guideline for butter rolls. Memory + recipe, & I think I can duplicate Dad's delicious creation. Thanx for the tips.

Long time resident of California but from Arkansas. And as someone who frequent Memphis I can say that as an Arkansan and have family in Tennessee as well. I don't think anyone can make a butter roll better from those two places lol. My grandmother refused to give anyone a recipe because it was too hard to bc she never wrote anything down so I've never had one like hers again but this recipe is definitely close. I will be making this. Thank you!!!!

My grandmother use to make this for me every Christmas and it’s my favorite dessert in her world! She recently passed and I’ve been wanting this but I didn’t know anyone else knew what this was! I’m gonna give it a go! Thanks you for this!🖤

🥰My mom made me a butter roll when I was 10… her dad used to make them when she was little. I’m almost 30 now and I’ve asked for one every year lol never got it again bc she said it was too much work. So I figured I would learn how to do this myself lol. Also, I’m from Memphis as well 😁

I like how you prepared your butter roll. That is exactly how I make mine. This brings back wonderful memories of my mother making her delicious butter rolls. I’m so glad to see your technique and not using store bought biscuits.
