How To Make The Banana Pudding Custard:

Sugar Mixture:
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Light Brown Sugar
2 Tablespoons Cinnamon
1 Tablespoon Nutmeg

Custard Sauce:
4 Cups Milks
1 Cup Sugar
2 Egg Yolks
1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
1 Tablespoon AP Flour
2 Tablespoons Rum
4 Tablespoons Butter
Drop of Yellow Food Coloring

Combine all ingredients except for vanilla extract in medium sauce pot on medium to medium high heat and cook for 10-15 minutes stirring constantly until sauce is thick. Add in vanilla extract at end.

If Sauce is not thick to your liking then add in a cornstarch slurry to help thicken

I’m so glad I found this recipe. I couldn’t remember my mom’s recipe, but she never mentioned anything she used to hand. It was always difficult but She was a scratch cook & baker, didn’t use the biscuit dough thought .My sister has been asking me to make it so I’m gonna make it for her today with biscuit though. I will do the scratch later but this will bring warm memories back to her as she is 75 now, excited to try this can’t wait ☺️

Im 66 and grew up eating this. My mom made homemade crust and formed packets of sugar and butter. Then baked the dough fill crust packets until lightly brown.

Then poured the homemade liquid custard over the baked packet. No liquor. It seemed to be the same custard used in making homemade ice cream.



I think this is straight up Sunflower County in Mississippi desert. We brought recipe with us to Chicago.

My Dad is from Mississippi this is one of his favorite desserts to make… I love it… he does the homemade biscuits most of the time and he also has a version where he adds homemade dumplings and instead of the rolls he spreads the biscuit dough over the top of the dumplings and custard sauce…. Delicious!!!
