Home Remedies for Cat UTI

Urinary tract infections are fairly common in cats. They aren’t typically something to get too worried about. When treated properly, UTI’s will not cause any long term damage to your cat’s urinary tract. These home remedies for cat UTI issues may help clear up the problem. However, you’ll need to monitor your cat closely to make sure the symptoms aren’t getting any worse.

A UTI can effect any part of your cat’s urinary tract, including the kidneys, bladder or the urethra (where the urine comes out of the body). Bacterial UTIs are caused when bacteria enters the urinary tract. This usually happens when the bacteria enters through the urethra and travels up to the bladder.

The home remedies for cat UTI problems listed in this article should work well if your cat has a bacterial infection. The UTI may also be caused by inflammation in the bladder without the presence of an infection. This is also referred to as sterile urinary tract inflammation or cystitis in cats.

Without consulting your veterinarian, it is nearly impossible to tell which type of urinary tract infection your cat is suffering from.

Our vet said that one of our girl cats is prone to urinary problems and said to feed her long term with UTI food. Problem is that manufactured food is expensive and made of cheap (not necessarily good for cats) ingredients. It surprised me bc in all other ways this vet is very open minded and up to date on the latest research.
My research has found that calcium, magnesium and phosphorus in lower ratios keep crystals from forming. I already found a triple concentrate cranberry powder with virtually no smell that I add to all our cats' food. I buy Catological's best budget wet food and mix it with water to pancake batter consistency to make sure they all drink enough (3.3 oz food/2 oz, water per cat twice a day). Morning food gets a patty of freeze dried food added ( i know it's not much but what we can afford). When I thaw our dinner meat the cats all get about a teaspoon's worth. Our problem girl loves broccoli and canned kidney/black/white/pink beans. The others are moody about veggies.
I watched your UTI recipe vid and you said this is not a long term diet. My question is what do I need to add to the cats' diet every day to help decrease crystal formation? And anything specific to our special girl?
