This video probably just saved my cat's life. He was blocked. At the vet hospital now. Thanks internet friends.

Really appreciate the clarity around this issue! We've got one with urinary problems- hasn't yet had a blockage, but we knew it could be serious so any time he had any related symptoms, we'd rush to the vet (almost always the ER, because no cat has their issues during business hours...), spend a thousand dollars or more so they could tell us he "probably has a UTI but isn't blocked". We've changed his diet, added litter boxes, bought new fountains for water... I don't want to mess around with his health, and we'll fork over the money in a heartbeat, but it's so helpful to know more specifically what we need to look for so we can save the ER trips for real emergencies. Thank you!

Thanks so much for making this available. My wife and I lost one cat to a urinary blockage in 2014, and then a different cat came very close to dying of one in 2020, but we caught it in time after knowing better what to look for.
An essential detail is that 24-48 hour window. It turns into a life threatening problem so quickly that knowing the signs is key.

My cat has this.
We took him in first thing today.
3 options.
1) $2300 on our credit card, bc we don't have that money.
2) give him up. They will fix him and then give him away to another family.
3) pay $600 to put him down.

We decided to rack it up on the old credit card.

Thank you much for being a patient oriented vet. Limited information given to pet parents does not help them take care of the patient. So thank you!!

Thank you so much for sharing this. Your video saved our cat's life today. His name is Blue and he is a very sweet and dear member of our family. My youngest son was diagnosed with cancer at a young age and he struggled at school but when we got him blue the cat, he got really attached and his health improved including his joy and happiness. Sadly tonight blue did almost die and we didn't know what was happening we rushed to the Animal hospital and I saw your video before we got there. I knew I felt the swelling and that he didn't urinate or had bowl movements. When we got to the hospital and shared your diagnosis was that spot on. The vet told us that if we didn't come in tonight that Blue wouldn't have survived the night. He was rushed in for surgery and will cost us $2500. But he will make this through. Thank you so much❤

I wish if there is a way to solve this issue permanently. Spend thousands of dollars to unblock it each time and cat genital gone swollen and red each time is not good. Not good for the owner and not good for the pet, both financially and emotionally.

This has been extremely helpful! I was scared my cat had a blockage because he was going in and out of the litter box, but he didn't have any other symptoms, so I felt a little better.

Thank goodness for this video's clear, concise description of what is and, usually, isn't an obstruction. Now, I know my outdoor, sometimes indoor, female cat is not obstructed. She's passing urine, but often, and licking. It may just be an inflamed bladder.

Great video and all soo true! I would just add that if the bladder is large don’t put any pressure or squeeze it as it could really cause a lot of un necessary pain for them. Thanks for the great video!!

We just lost our beautiful orange tabby on Saturday morning. We had no idea what his problem was and just thought his symptoms would improve. He was only 1 1/2 yrs old 😢

I’ve always known about urinary blockages in cats so my Felvie is on a wet food only diet and I give him kibbles bc he enjoys them, but mainly wet food. High quality. And I’ve always been thankful for his habit of drinking a lot of water bc I know indoor male cats are at risk and he still got a block. 😭🐈‍⬛

My cat almost died. He's vet saved his life. Suggested also to drink water and change his food. Since then, he's gotten so use to drinking water and we have him on C/D mix together. I understand, this could not be "the reason" but I know what to do now ...rush him ASAP to his doc and get him mechanically unblocked.

excellent video informative.. No other video mentioned "frequently within an hour"... Didn't know what frequently meant, 3 times a day? No it means within an period of short time.. thank you

Thank you so much for this. I get paranoid with my boy when I see him frequently trying to use the litter box because he is prone to crystals. Although he is already on a special diet, just being able to check him makes me feel better. He’s a very docile boy so this isn’t a problem at home.

Thankfully caught the obstruction in time for my big boy. I had taken him to the vet a few days before to check, and they said his bladder was a normal size. They gave him antibiotics and it seemed to helped… but less than 36 hours later, he’s currently at the veterinary hospital urinating though a catheter.

According to tests, it didn’t affect his kidneys. The vet’s office is being quite greedy though. I had to pay them $1000 up front (I paid partially with cash and as much as I could with my only credit card) but, they’re asking for an additional $500 they want paid over the phone before we pick him up tomorrow 😤

My regular vet wasn’t taking emergency cases last night so we had to go to a different vet.

Worst experience of my life but, I’m glad my cat is ok 😢

My previous vet could actually squeeze urine out of the bladder to verify whether there was a blockage or not. I wish I had learned that technique.

Hopefully you can answer my inquiry, my cat experienced urinary blockage this August 25, catheter was placed and initially was seen with a mucus plug, after 5-10 mins of drain the vet notice some white cystals, he was admitted with a catheter for 24-48 hours, however due to lack of funds i opted to bring my cat home, i begged them to keep the catheter in place however they did not agree, first two days my cat regained his appetite which is continually improving, and was passing frequent urine with size of a golf ball, however i have observed him visit the litter box today and pass a dime size of urine, he doesnt frequent the litter multiple times an hour but like every 1-2 hours, sometimes 3-4 hours, i tried to palpate for his bladder although i can feel firmness, it isnt rock like as before, should i be concerned and immediately bring him for another catheterization? Or is this normal since he might have inflammation still of his urether?

My cat and my male cat has been to two separate veterinarian four times with the first one and now with the second one it's made six times with the 6 the recommending surgery and an empty out the bladder would opening up to Eurasia be a positive thing because the vet said well that would be two separate the surgeries and I'm saying why wouldn't you just open up the you Lisa and have the bladder into out that way I think they're running me over the coals and wanting more money out of me please advise
