Jaime: “We’re sworn to protect her too”
Jon: “But not from him.”

Weird stuff with his sister aside young Jamie really just wanted to be what a knight should be. That must have been so devastating to know that something terrible is happening right behind you and your heros not only let it happen but tell you to do the same.

"so many vows, they make you swear and swear. Defend the king, obey the king, obey your father, protect the innocent and defend the weak. What if your father despises the king? What if the king massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow for another."

I just thank the gods for Aerys not having dragons

This is what annoyed me most about Jaime in series 8, he basically leaves all the citizens of King's Landing to die when book Jaime would never do that

I think the core lesson is about how the established authority can skew social morals and that most people will unfortunately fall in line for fear of terrible punishment if they try to stand up for what's actually moral

incest aside, young jaime was ironically the only true knight in westeros at the time

While it does put another check mark in the mad king’s gotta die column, it also reinforces Ned’s comment of you served while serving was safe. He knew it was wrong but didn’t do anything until there would be no immediate consequences. All the other king’s guard were gone or dead and his father was at the gates.

Jaime, when written by Martin is such a great character. He has still done abhorrent things, but there is also a human with a sense of compassion there, and one that the other characters tend not to see.

Also when Rickard & Brandon were being killed he spent the whole time thinking of Cersei to cope but apparently had some form of negative reaction cuz Gerold Hightower tells him “You’re sworn to defend the king, not to judge him”

It's so sad that Jaime was so good-hearted but raised in a family like the Lannisters. The only reason Tyrion escaped being corrupted was becausege wasn't treated like a true Lannister—and undead up fathering his own bitterness over that though.

What really messes me up is that one of these attacks is probably what led to the birth of Daenerys.

It bugs me when “honourable” men like Ned Stark bully Jamie for being a king slayer 🙄 he made the right choice for everyone.

Jamie Lannister- Westeros biggest victim of cancel culture

Jaimie is honestly that character that everyone would call the hero on any story, but people hated him for being tiwyns son and being a kingslayer, so he went all "well you want me to be the villain? I'll show you a villain"

Jon Darry was the one that took care of Viserys and Dany in Essos right?

Jaime telling Brienne that Cersei is hateful and so is he felt like when I am writing and I can't be bothered to take longer than I have to on whatever I'm working on. That kind of laziness is absolutely unacceptable from professional writers accountable for the legacy of the greatest TV show ever!

Hightower, Dayne, Darry, Whent, Martell and even Barristan were all cowards hiding behind pretenses of honor and oaths.

No wonder Jaime became so callous and amoral. Imagine being told not to protect the innocent by your heroes, the supposed paragons of virtue, after being sworn to do so and then being loathed for being the ONLY one to do what was right, while the men that allowed horrors to be commited are remembered fondly as legends.

That is the biggest tragedy of Jaime's character, and an aspect of ASOIAF we all generally ignore, as we all like Barristan, and facing the fact that beyond his great deeds, he completely failed to live up to his own reputation when it mattered.
