This project is legit one of the ones I'm most excited for. I can't wait to take it for a spin.

Really enjoy your informed commentary!
I'm running and love Pop!_OS.

Mint has to fight for that "Ubuntu but better" spot

The part that excited me is seeing how battery conservation is part of the settings. As a gnome user, my only way to access to this in GUI format was via extensions, and in other cases like Linux Mint, I'm stuck with terminal commands. If this gets released and plays well with my Lenovo laptop, I'm immediately installing it to replace my Ubuntu install

I'm excited. I switched over to Pop on all my devices.

Cosmic Text, whether is more complex than it should be or not, is a really meaningful improvement in regards of text management in Iced - the frameworks used to build Cosmic.

I am using pop!_os and i love cosmic. Windows tilling and keyboard shortcuts back in a day was the thing that made me switch from mint. I will admit, i still go between 2 OSs. Can't wait for this to cone out!

I tried out Iced for one of my projects before Cosmic was a thing, and I had such a fantastic experience using it. However it had a ton of rough edges, namely a lack of multi line text input, which all my project ideas required. The fact that Iced is being adopted and is receiving the TLC it needs to be awesome makes me really happy. I'm using Tauri in one of my projects for the multi line text input, I'll probably rewrite it with Iced whenever it properly supports that. Cosmic also seems to be a really fantastic project on its own, and I'm really excited for it.

A tiling based keyboard driven DE is a very compelling niche that gnome just isn't taking care of properly.

Cannot wait for this!

(I'm mostly on dwm workflow, but for a gaming desktop rig this is more than likely where I'll go so friends can use it too.)

I personally like the idea of the more powerful text editor as opposed to simpler.. At work, I use Kate for things like multiple cursors, whitespace, occasional VIM macros, things that help me construct commands or format terminal output for iinternal documentation, etc. I also use VS Code or native tools for larger scale work. That's not to say you can't use Kate for dev work as well but I'm just saying I like to have a powerful text editor with things like a folder/project view, multiple cursors, etc., separate from my development environment(s).

It's nice to see an alternative desktop and it uses an alternative gui framework (iced). However, the framework is written in rust and doesn't appear to have a C abi exported, so if you want to create an application that looks 100% native for cosmic then you have to write your program in rust. Gtk on the other hand works with any language, because it's designed that way from the start.
They have a gtk theme to make gtk applications look like their native applications but im not sure how close to native the gtk applications will look like.

I am currently using Kate as my text editor for coding because VSCode takes a lot of my screen space and is an electron app, that text editor might be a very good competitor even if it doesn't have a lot of extensions it would be enough that it has a way to make extensions for it.

I constantly hop back to desktop environments to see if I would like the experience. I think if tiling on cosmic works, they might win me over as I don't feel too much attachment to window managers, with the exception of the convenience of dotfiles. I was kind of waiting for kde tiling to mature, but cosmic might be a good option

I wonder whether it's more like Gnome in terms of its dictatorialness, or KDE in terms of its flexibility...

This DE looks incredible, I'm definitely going to give it a try as a daily driver for my laptop. I'm in love with the looks of it so far :)
PS: I really really love bemenu as a wayland dmenu replacement! I'd totally recommend considering checking it out! It's a complete drop-in replacement and even has a pinentry patch, I'm really in love with it, I use it for pass and pinentry.

A tiling, keyboard centered de that I don't need to spend a weekend configuring (and learning how to do it isn't a project in itself)? Sign me in!

Hopefully they don't include the padding on maximized windows so that I can close a window when I move my pointer into the upper-right corner and click.
