I'm actually very excitied for it. I personally really like just the way they designed it. Out of box is so nice. They are doing an amazing job, please keep it up System76.

It's nice that we get another native wayland desktop option.

"Got the compositor to play nice with KVM switches" is what I was waiting for. Time to give this thing a shot again. That was the only issue I had from alpha 1 and it was a dealbreaker.

7:20 all before that is just about display, settings added. Save yourself time. They added an incrememt to the scaling. And now it can zoom in. No need to waist that much time to say just that. I'm sure most is like me, Super excited when SavvyNik post updates on this stuff, the meat is after that point.

I've been using it off and on since Alpha 1 and it's been really cool seeing massive bugs get fixed and new features added. For weeks I couldn't even use my laptop screen as display switching was not working. I still use windows primarily but having a dual boot and getting to feel the progress firsthand is amazing.

I love that rust is seeing more adoption, we need more secure software and Cosmic existing is a good thing.

I've been a pop os user for several years. I'm looking forward to the official release. I'm not ready to take the leap yet because I have too many projects going.

I have been using it since alpha 4 and I think this is the most stable Wayland i have ever used on the Nvidia GPUs.

I'm surprised he didn't figure out what that 200% setting did on the zoom feature after he started zooming in and out by 200% increments when using the keyboard shortcuts.

On the memory updates, I feel like it's been quite noticeable... In alphas 1 through 5, I always encountered problems running Brave in that it would work fine, until it didn't... After some time, Brave response would become not frozen, but the response would be so slow that web pages were simply not navigable... As of alpha 6, I haven't encountered that problem yet, and I'm glad, because for the other alphas, this problem was the first one to send be back to other desktops.

Games must run! In the previous alphas, I couldn't launch games, but last night, I was able to play Until Then successfully, and I was able to test Bedrock Minecraft, which ran with about 0.125 seconds of input lag... It was only barely enough to be a real problem, and disorientating, as well as not enjoyable. Java Minecraft simply wouldn't launch. I'll try other games with time, and I now have Cosmic installed on an AMD system, and an Nvidia system, so I guess I'll see if that makes a difference. My main system is AMD

The last thing I need to use Cosmic long term is IME support. Thankfully, one of the Sys76 engineers did inform me that IME support is on the way.

After that, I think I can be a pretty happy Cosmic user (though there are still some other missing "nice to haves")

I was about to migrate my old ACER Aspire 3820TG from Pop_OS 22.04 to EndlessOS but I watched this video before.
The memory reduction on the next release of Pop_OS is a keeper.

at 4:21 it seems like the option that you were confused about and left set to 200% may be what controls how much it zooms when you click super and plus or minus (not currently running cosmic desktop so I am not able to check), but if that is the case I think they could make it a little more clear what the option does so persons aren't as confused

Hey great video, I ran Cosmic for 60 days and streamed, gamed ect. and it was solid, I found a couple of glitches but nothing that would make me move away from it, I have moved on to Hyprland so far going good! Keep up the great work cheers! 😎FYI I installed Arch with Gnome and add COSMIC.

It's nice to see something new in the Linux world. I just don't like that dock, it looks weird with those rounded corners. The old Gnome/popos type dock looks good.

The zoom jumping issue could be scroll wheel jumping though I'm not sure. Scroll wheel jumping is an issue with virtually all hardware encoders in mice today.

If only free VPNs were working fine (available) on Linux distros, I am considering changing to Pop OS. My country has set up a great censorship on some websites including VPNs. The major thing backing down me on Linux is the VPN solution.

They still have ways to go in optimization. Hopefully, by release, they'd manage to make cosmic comp consume less cpu and reduce the RAM usage to under 1gb.
