BEST Speed Shoe Of 2023?! Hoka Mach X / Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 / Brooks Hyperion Max Comparison - welcome back to another video and today I am stacking up the hoka mach x against the saucony endorphin speed 3 and the brooks hyperion max. As soon as I got the hoka mach x in for testing I felt like these other two shoes were the type of shoes it was competing against, so today I wanted to make a video discussing this topic!

What are your thoughts on this comparison?

The Hoka Mach x is a heavy shoe 9.4 oz in size 9. I like a lighter shoe for Intervals and Tempos! Saucony Endorphin pro 3 - 7.2 oz. in size 9 ; Brooks Hyperion max 7.5 oz in size 9.

Looking forward to the Speed 4 & Pro 4 coming out in the spring; hopefully, in time for Boston.

Good morning. Excellent comparison. My vote goes to brooks hyperion Max. Like to Andy. A nice weekend for everyone.

I am a fan of the Hoka Mach 4 &5.can use for trainers Tempos, interval and racing 5k -10k.The Mach x seems to be an expensive super heavy trainer made for Long Runs. I personally would stick with the Hoka Clifton or The Saucony Endorphin speed for a Trainer!

Great video, Andy! I’m a huge Hyperion max fan, and I think you’re their biggest hype man! The fit of the speed 3 and Mach x didn’t work for me, but I’m on my 2nd pair of Hyperion max and they are my go to marathon pace and tempo shoe, especially on rainy days!!

Interesting take. I love the Mach X for steady paces up through marathon pace like you, and I also believe it doesn’t respond the best to more threshold level pacing. However, oddly enough, I found it to pop really well at some short and fast fartleks (minuters, etc.) at near VO2max effort. Maybe it’s the geometry of the shoe or the way the rocker dips when I’m getting up on my forefoot. 🤷‍♂️

I have both shoes. Both the Endorphine Speed 3 and the Hoka Mach X. In a direct comparison, I have to say that the Saucony Speed 3 is a little better. It feels a little softer and lighter on the foot and it runs a little faster. I only use both for training and they are really good for that. Definitely not for competition...if you like running with Hoka you should definitely go for the Rochet X2 and that's exactly how it is with Saucony.
Personally, I run the Nike Alphafly Next% 2 and Vaporfly Next% 3 as well as the Hoka Rocket X2 in competition.

Hyperion Max is kind of underrated mainly because of its pricepoint. But if it can be obtained at a significant discount, this is a no-brainer. Got mine at a price that is a bit cheaper than a Peg40.

Love the comparison. I ran in all 3 shoes. I own 2 of them: Speed 3 and Hyperion Max. I have tried HOKA Mach X as a demo shoe in a group run. I totally agree with your ranking these shoes. Since, I still have new-in-box pairs of Speed 2 and Speed 2 RunShield, I will pass on this generation of Mach X. However, I think Mach X is probably more durable than Mach 5. Outsole might outlive Speed 3.

I enjoy watching these videos. Maybe that’s why I have over 30 pairs of running shoes. With that said, all I want to do is pickup the asics superblast.

Just bought a pair of Hyperion Max online for $90! They arrive today. Excited to try them after hearing how much you love them.

Interesting that you picked the only non-plated shoe as your speed shoe. I've been thinking about the Noosa Tri for a similar use case.

I loved the speed 1, but not so much for the speed 3. It seems like it got too “safe.” Also, it had a less smooth and slightly jarring transition on foot for me. I regret not buying the speed 2’s.

Been getting around 700-800km out of the Speed 3, durability is good, but they can be better in the wet indeed.

Sorry but I seem to be missing something. In terms of pairing shoes, the mach x seemed to be the ones guaranteed to be in the rotation, and you could pick either of the others based on your preference. Even though they didn't seem to offer any benefits over the hyperion or speed 3. Why not the hyperion and speed 3 in the rotation, or even two hyperions?

Love the hyp max especially for hill repeats, as the forefoot comes alive there for me. And I love the way it looks!

Love the Boston 12.. How about the ON Cloudflow 4?

In terms of the pace range, would you say it’s similar to the Mach 4 (and therefore Mach 5)? If so, given the Mach 5 is £30 cheaper I’m wondering why spend the extra cash? Thanks

Nice video Andy! Really looking forward to hearing how you get on with durability with the Mach X. Love the feel and fit of Hokas when fresh out of the box, but like you have had major issues with their durability, the midsole seems to die before they even reach 200 miles for me. If this has been sorted with the Mach X it seems like a shoe I would enjoy, but am not willing to spend any more money on Hokas until that is confirmed.. Will keep my eyes open for your next reviews!
