Let’s say you could head off into a remote wilderness location of your choice with all the gear you could carry. How long do you think you would last? 24 hours? One week? Two months. Or…….does that sound like a dream come true and you would never come back?

Rain on a tin roof is prime sleeping time.

The tremendous sense of isolation can't be ignored when thinking about being alone in the wilderness. I'm glad you brought that up. It's all fun and games til you start talking but there's no one there to listen lol.

I left Tennessee in 2011. Moved to Alaska after the commercial fishing season was over. I decided to live off grid so I had my buddy take me as far as he could in his truck that I took a plane to a secluded Place 297 miles from any town or any living being and stayed 6 weeks by myself. I absolutely loved it and if I didn't have kid's to take care of I will drop everything I'm doing and immediately go back.

If I were lucky enough to be there, that rain on the roof would put me to sleep ! I LOVE the sound of rain on the roof !!

Speak to any SF small team operator that operated in non permissive environments how hard it is to be away from help
1 and 2 man teams
Ask the lone operator that has to move forwards alone for days to gather intel and scout
Pure survival in freezing nights and baking days
No one to talk to and every eye for miles around seemingly on
Its tough
But mentally taxing beyond belief
Most people do not have that mental toughness
And i will get commented on
But go and do
And see how far you get
Especially in an environment where everything is you
Glamour
For the first 2-3 days
After that its a grind
Go, do, and in 6 months interview with Jason so you can share
Its a fantasy and definately not easy

I'm on a Tropical island 🏝, go with the ferro rod, a Bic lighter won't last one second in salt water, the ferro rod will get cavities if not cleaned with fresh water after contact with salt water, but cavities take a while to form, you can wash with coconut water. I could do 2 months, but I already know my way around here, you could survive here with bread fruit and green banana alone, but there is a decent amount of variety around here.

Great video!! A very good analysis on long term survival!! I have been in the woods for long periods and truth be told I don't think there is a backpack big enough to carry everything that one would need without some sacrifices on gear. Even the mtn men used a means of conveyance to carry all the used.

A fully stocked pack with in a temperate forest next to a decent sized pond or river if you can't last a month or so in the summer or early fall idk what to say to you. All the small game and even large game, fishing, building materials, wild edibles, fire materials, fresh water abundance. It's basically a mind game at that point. Winter gets quiet and cold but if you know what to do in that you'd be fine for a bit.

Back when I was a backpacker I stayed out for 3 days alone... Was fun. After the 2nd day i got passed the being alone. And realized i was becoming one with nature.. was an awesome 3 days... Could I stay longer now yes no problem.... Once you make it a week you should be able to make it longer.... Oh I did this in northern Minnesota in pre winter. Temps gotdown to freezing....

I think the damn mosquitoes would be my undoing. Give me a bug net to eat and sleep under and I’ll have a shot. I saw when Les Stroud took a MMA fighter into the jungle for one or two nights and the insects were RELENTLESS. The fighter guy was losing his freakin sanity bc of them

I’ve been five days out in the woods by myself and really enjoyed it. Five days of food was my limitation.

I think they made a TV about this: Alone. I was surprised watching season 1 how many couldn't make it 1 week -- mostly due to large predators.

A cheap ass net hammock. In the heat its a shelf basically. In the rain a few spreader twigs its a clothes drying line. 2 months some seed potatoe takes 6 weeks could chase some small ones out at 3 or 4 weeks too

Reckon you could extend rule of 3s. 3 months without other people before you loose your marbles.

Im prone to feel I'd be more comfortable along the Gulf Coast. South Texas is my home range. From semi arid to sub tropical to coastal barrier islands.
