After the groundbreaking releases of The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, every studio in Hollywood wanted a crack at M. Night Shyamalan's next script. Though after 2 decades of examination, the ending of Signs has not held up as many fans remember. Known for his big twist endings, M. Night Shyamalan seemed to have his first misstep with Signs, but no one noticed at the time.

I like this film for not making the characters saviors of humanity. They hid in a basement, just like anyone would. And all the random events that happened in the film are connected in the end. It shows a global event, with the camera lens on something small, a family with their everyday problems.

No, it's not subtle. It's decidedly not subtle. But it's exactly what it promises to be.

The fact that the big terrifying monster was easily dispatched is part of the theme of Faith. Because it was his fear and doubt that were the real enemies.

I'd say the idea of water-averse aliens invading Earth is a dumb plothole. But then I remember War of the Worlds ended with the aliens dying of contact with bacteria, so maybe Shyamalan was inadvertently paying homage to that idea.

Unpopular opinion but I like the ending and I love the movie as a whole and think it’s M Nights best movie even behind The 6th Sense. The sound track/main theme is fantastic. The horror is done very tastefully and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The acting from the whole cast is superb, and say what you will about Mel Gibson’s personal shortcomings but the scene of him saying goodbye to his dying wife is enough to bring any grown man to tears.

Water is abundant in the universe, it's impossible to believe that even if they aren't carbon-based lifeforms that had no water on their planet, that they haven't encountered it before, when they're a species that is capable of FTL travel lol. Thing is, Signs isn't a sci-fi movie, it's a movie about faith.

I’m gonna have to disagree with you. You made a great video, but I liked the ending, I think there was enough mystery and suspense even when they revealed the alien fully twice, I’ve rewatched it many times as an adult and it still gives me the chills.

They don't. They sent Scouts to the planet and the Scouts figured out it was inhospitable for them, so they left. That's the entire finale.

The ending isn't an issue... The entire way the aliens attack and handle themselves in this movie is like they are scared too. Like they are desperate and even though there are a TON of things that can harm or kill them they out of a need to survive stage this attack. The water being something that harms them fits with this line of thought pretty well. Hell they even leave behind the injured alien who attacks the kid at the end. His people left him in their haste to take what they could and get out of dodge. Seems to me a fine ending
