The creator of the material world, sometimes known as the Demiurge, is often depicted as a lesser, ignorant deity responsible for trapping human souls in a state of ignorance and suffering.

When I studied eastern philosophy after gnosticism, it really clicked that the demiurge concept is describing what we might now call the ego... the thoughts and self-image that forms around the belief that "I am separate". So yes, when our own consciousness (which in reality is one with everything) has created a self image of "I am separate" then we are basically in the same boat as the demiurge. Our ego/separate-self-concept is the demiurge. A "false God" that is confused about its origin, and is unreal, just like the ego. Solipsism, a sense of separation from Truth or reality (of oneness with all that is or "The Father" which is our true consciousness), "living in own's own head", etc.

It seems like the gnostics were describing the same thing as the yogis, but hiding it in deep allegories and mythology. Sophia is realizations and understandings that free the consciousness from its self-made prison. The yogis call it jnana yoga, the yoga of knowledge. To go within and love Truth, love the God heart, correct misperceptions through gnosis, is philo (love of) Sophia, or philosophy. :)

Who you are on earth is a false identity, a second identity that was formed. Finding your original identity is what you need to do. That is what knowledge is, the desire to know more is because you know you're not this false person with a false name. It's known those that have lost their memories assume a new identity which is not who they are.

the Demiurge comes from the Greek word ''Demiourgos'' which means ''Creator''...Pythagoras knew about it and spread this knowledge with the later ones, called the ''Pythagoreans'', as well as Plato did to the Platonians and Neoplatonians...but people knew about it before Pythagoras (600 B.C) probably Orphists knew about it as well as they were the basis to the later on knowledge of the ancient Greeks like Pythagoras, Timaious also talks about it, as well as many other proto-christians...probably even the Hermetics talk about a Demiourgos/Creator...then the Gnostics, who were Greeks, Romans and even Jewish sometimes, they implied this knowledge to the first stages of Christianism, proto-Orthodoxy and so on.
