I make a regular D chord and then toss my pinky on f# on the d string. It felt weird at first, but now I kind of like it. I might try with the thumb, though.

Is there something I can do to make the bar one easier? Like a stretch or something to get my finger to cover the whole fret

I used the first method but found that by changing which fingers held what string it was way better. First finger on the 2nd fret E string, then 2nd and 3rd fingers replace where the 1st and second finders were, and pinky/4th finger where the 3rd finger was. Am I breaking the rules by playing it that way?

How would I turn this d with f sharp in the bass to D11 fmwith f sharp in the bass?
One person said b string on the 1st fret or alternatively barring the 5fret from the a string.
The second person said b string 1st fret and high e string on the 2nd fret.
