i had a raccoon that was abandoned by it's mother at about a week or two old. i brought him home & raised him until he was three months old. he had no contact with any animals & we kept him inside. he stopped eating & drinking from his bottle & had a high temp, he had diarrhea really bad, the pads on his feet thickened & got really rough, & his back legs seemed to stop working. i kept him feed the best i could & the fever went down a lot but he was still warmer than normal & his back legs started working again. the vet told me it was distemper but no test was done & he never walked in circles like most video's i've seen on them do & i haven't found anything about distemper causing back leg problems. what does it sound like he had? he died of a seizure in my arms. everything lasted about 10-14 days & he was gone. he was a sweet heart.

Good video but one thing you got wrong: It's bad to tell people to just completely ignore them if they see them near their home or neighborhood. They should call the wildlife control since the raccoon could POTENTIALLY bite or attack someone since they aren't in their right state of mind. People should always report rabid animals.

Saw a raccoon in the road today. He was very very chill, and sat in front of my car. I got out to investigate and he was limping. I didn't touch him or approach cause I did think of rabies, so I called our animal control. He wasn't walking in circles but he kept walking back into the road before eventually wandering down the street very slowly.

Ever since I seen the movie "Quarantine, " I did my best to stay away Raccoons or any animals who have rabies.

Treat wild animals like weapon. Always assume the weapon is loaded. Always assume, all wild animals have rabies. Keep your distance.

There was a baby raccoon in my neighbor's lawn and they had kittens under their deck so we went to help. The raccoon was stumbling around and we tossed a stick next to it and it didnt even flinch we did it again and the same outcome. We ended up getting it into a cage by throwing a blanket on top of the animal and placing it on top of it. It kept ramming its head into the kennel and its nose was dripping. Rabies? Either way we killed the raccoon bc of all the stray animals in our area and not wanting to risk an epidemic

RACCOONS that act weird such as what he has stated in the video doesn't necessarily mean they are rabid because they could also have distemper and/ or parvo raccoons are a combonation of canine and feline and in this case it normally causes blindness as well as some foaming of the mouth. I know this as being a fact because I had a baby raccoon that was fine one minute and aggressive the next and the only person that could touch him or even get close to him was me we bonded and he knew i was here to help. I noticed his eyes starting to get cloudy and that was slightly scary therefore I started using gloves . Luckily we were going to Kentucky to visit family in which they knew a private veternarian that dealt with wild animals as well as reptiles . Relatives had already had the vet lines up and we took him to be checked out the vet identified his illness as distemper and parvo but did blood work to be sure therefore she gave me a bottle of Pedialyte and liquid antibiotics what fun that was if he was to get better I had planned to give him to my cousin but however I slept outside with him on the back porch because I didn't wanna leave him alone to wonder off or get close to their cats and dogs. I watched him and cared for him somewhat had a hard time being able to squirt the meds down his throat on the 3rd and last night staying in KY before we had to head home my little guy died in my arms in the middle of the night lab results came in 2 days after we got home and thank God no signs of rabies but he had distemper and parvo . Very sad but this happened in the late 80s and at that time the only way to know if they were rabid was time cut it's head off and take it back to the vet and no way that was going to happen but we took him up the hills and buried him.

went to SPI and on the pier a raccoon let me feed him and he kept coming back. He was very skinny and looked like a baby.

I honestly never wouldve considered that raccoons may be out during the day bcuz they were blinded by the light and just couldnt see their way home. Ill try to be more helpful the next time. I just always thought they just being rebellious like sneaking to stay up past daylight until they getting caught by momma raccoon and getting that ass switched and in the den lol
