How to connect your Dawless kit - I'm answering Miles!
I got a question from Miles, a subscriber. He is asking how to connect his Yamaha DTX12, Korg Electribe 2 Sampler and Korg Monologue to be able the sync all of them together and make a song.
He has many questions about how to connect everything (daisy chain or not?), how to assign MIDI channel and how to go about playing / performing a song.

I want to start my dawless setup for live performances with low cost obsolete obsolete vintage retro equipment, low fi, preferably with midi rather than sync or cv / gate, using drum machine, groove boxes, phrase sampler, korg monotron, volca, casio vl1, midi sequencer, guitar pedals, half rack midi modules etc, maybe a nintendo with the DS10 a casio sk1 etc, what do you recommend? I'm digressing? is it a lot of G.A.S gear syndrom acquisition?

Trying to not get a mini iPad or computer been dawless, for years though I've used logic and Ableton Famitracker, trying to just use a Guitar and my Korg Electribe EMX1 need maybe a midi foot controller? Connected my guitar to my Electribe. With 3/4 cables. Just trying to use a normal live set up normal amp.. looper pedals I have think I'm there. Haha minus a midi foot controller?

What machine is affordable to build a dawless (song) with. I have the electribe sampler 2 a n2 mixer and some turn tables and still building .might get a Casio CTx...

The Electribe (latest firmware) has a pattern chain function, which is pretty close to a song mode. BTW, each of the 16 pads on the Electribe gets its own midi channel. One limitation is that pad 1 can send and receive on midi channel 1 only, pad 2 can send and receive on channel 2 only and so on.

Good stuff! Definitely leans to what I’m looking to try. I’m working on connecting a Digitakt(drum machine) to a Mininova(keys) with a Looptimus (midi controller foot pedal) I just bought. My thought is to use this type of setup (keys/drum machine) as backup tracks to me playing guitar & singing over all of it....kind of a band in a box just using hardware & no daw. My Looptimus pedal would be activating backing tracks I’ve created with the keys & drum machine. Seems doable but I haven’t put it all together yet. 👍🏼

My setup currently consisting 3 devices (Novation Circuit and 2 Behringer TD-3). I would like to get a Roland MC-707 at some point to work as a master. What would be better in that case, a MIDI-thru box or a MIDI interface like a Motu micro lite? What would you suggest?

You are amazing! Your were very respectful to Miles and gave lots of info. Although Miles stated that he wants the Yamaha to be the “Source”; in your honest opinion would it not be better to use the Electribe as the source or main output? It seems as though it was designed for it. I may be completely wrong.

I’m wondering if there’s anyone out there that can?

Should i be able to sync my Akai Force with Minilogue XD, Modwave, JD XI, SH 201 using a usb hud then the TR8S, MC 707, TB 3, System 1 into the MX-1 then plug that in too using the one usb slot?

I should technically be able to mix whatever’s plugged in at the time.

I also have a brand new Zoom R16 my dad had sitting about, did dad saved the day?

Or would i better going for a TASCAM Model 12 or Livetrack l12?

Any help/advice will be much appreciated.
