I'm currently a high school science teacher. I just registered for a massage therapy program, and I'm terrified. Thanks for the video. It's helping to calm the nerves a little.

Currently in Massage School now. I'm glad that the things you mention in this video we are being taught in class!

I went through the massage program in Vancouver at VCMT, and it was a very very challenging program academically and financially, it was such a huge burden that I actually had to leave the profession for a few months to go make some money in the oil field to take some of the pressure off, I lasted 10 months before I had to take a step back. I am just getting started again after about 7 months off and clearing some of that debt, but I am extremely excited to begin again. Inside of my first 10 months I started to see a really good increase in the traffic at the clinic I was working at and it was extremely fulfilling job which I genuinely love. I am so excited to get started again, but a little bit daunted by the challenge of starting over again. Bit it'll be worth it, no more Construction, no more Oilfield. Just hands on helping people.

Massage is a very rewarding career, you wont be making tons of money to start, make sure to have another job, but i love it and wouldnt trade it for any other job. Yes many times I questioned myself and wanted to quit because of the pay, but its super rewarding, and tons of opportunities, work hard, grind in it, always learn.

I definitely agree with this video. I've been a Sports based massage therapist for 23 years, and the rewards definitely outweigh the cons.

Thanks for the breakdown. I am currently that corporate drone, and im considering a switch to massage therapy for all the reasons you listed. Its nice hearing this from a male practitioner also, theres alot of conflicting information in regards to men in the profession on the internet lol.

Oh and whoever reads this, there are cons with every job, if you want to do this, do it, dont let anything hold you back, its a fun career. Not sure how it works in the usa but in canada where I am we have to do courses, somewhat expensive, like $300 plus, but not bad, been doing it for over 2 years now

I’m 42, female and doing office jobs. I’m thinking of getting the massage license as I want the “fulfilling” feeling when I can help people but my friends and family kept saying that I would be burn out and can’t make enough money for living.
Thank you for your video!

I have been a massage therapist for 5 years and wish my instructor would have told me this. All this is true.

I didn't go to school for massage therapy to become a work horse for the system to use me up and spit me out. Ive seen nursing students go to nursing schools young, fit, and healthy only to get burned out from just the nursing program. They end up on anti depressants, lack of sleep poor diets etc... Careers in healing should not come at the expense of sacrifcing your own well being.

Thank you for making this! I’m thinking about leaving corporate life as a brand designer of 9 years for a career in massage therapy. My family and partner are worried for me about the change in consistent income and benefits, but I feel so drawn to it and I think I’d be good at it. Did you get pushback from loved ones when you started?

I’ve been in a corporate job for sometime. After getting my 2nd dry promotion and realizing that moving up within the company is going to be hard. And with the low pay raises, I get on average a $800 annual raise. $800 for the year, meanwhile my bills have increased by almost that much a month. I’m looking to get out and I give messages to ppl. They say I’m good, so I’ve been thinking about MT,

I always smile when I hear LMTs talk about physical demand.

How many have come from being a laborer?

I'm going to start school at Praxis. I think we get more experience. Some students work in the spa even after graduation.

Honestly I feel like this makes me want to pursue the profession more. I think in a way it can be just as fulfulling succeeding and reguardless of the journey there I dont think anything could compare to being able to help people in their time of need. I do worry however about who to get experiance from how to find a job and what collage to go to though (I am 16 haha)
