If you’re looking for weird no one talks about anymore, I would look at Margaret Atwood’s backlist. She has a number of novels and poetry collections besides Handmaids Tale!

I love unhinged books. Mona Awad is the queen of weird books, Rouge was WILD. Also the way you do your eyeliner is so cute! I definitely want to try this style out.

Some old weird faves: Mrs. Caliban by Rachel Ingalls (woman falls in love with an amphibian). Bear by Marian Engel (woman becomes passionately obsessed with a bear). The Pices by Melissa Broder (woman has an affair with a fish). A short story collection: Unclean Jobs for Women story "Gardner (woman falls in love with a gnome) but there are quite a few in this collection.

A.S. Byatt's Little Black Book of Stories is so very strange and awesome. It's a collection of 5 short stories, and it's one I recommend regularly to other fellow connoisseurs of weird books. All of A.S Byatt's books are amazing, but they're not all quite as weird as this one!

I loved Perfume when I read it many years ago, the descriptions of scent are so evocative that at times you forget that the main character is completely reprehensible.

I would also add The Virgin Suicides by Jeffery Eugenides and We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson to your weird books TBR, if you haven't already read them. Strange but satisfying books.

ok I loved this!! For recommendations… I think you’ll love Perfume and Pain it was pretty unhinged and funny. And then I don’t remember if you’ve read this but I think I remember seeing it on your shelves- When We Lost Our Heads is PERFECT and I bet you’d really love it!

I forgot the best! The Beauty by Aliya Whiteley. Okay, stay with me here: There are no women left in the world. There is a colony of men living in The Valley of the Rocks. They are trying to survive knowing there is no future for mankind, no women means no babies. Until . . . they meet the Beauty in the woods. What is the Beauty? You will never and I mean never guess. This book is FANTASTIC and has stuck with me for years. Highly recommend for those of us who like to read on the edge. Don't miss it.
