ADDERALL: What it *actually* does

Показать описание
What Adderall *actually* does for people with ADHD. It doesn’t make ADHD go away, it just makes it more manageable. We still need accommodations to succeed.

The point of this is NOT that people should move to another room. It's that invisible disabilities need accommodations, too. In this example, the ADHDer is at the only table in the house. The person on the phone can talk in any room. The ADHDer can only study in that room.

PLEASE DO NOT GET HUNGUP ON THE EXAMPLE! It's more about the lesson than the specific example.

If you think you have ADHD, I made a worksheet to help determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria and talk to your doctor about it!

As a person with ADHD, thank you for making this video! I needed this since I’ve never been able to explain this to people as well as you just did. Love your channel!

This is also how I explain that people can *also have difficulty focusing* but I have a *unique difficulty* . I point out that 500 stairs can be taxing on anyone, but people with mobility issues have a harder time. Someone with a bad knee might take hours and a person in a wheelchair might not ever get to the top without accomodations.

This is so true! I wish people like you were around when I was younger but the platform did not even exist! You are lovely and doing great work!

I take Adderall and this is so true. It’s a MASSIVE help for my ADHD and binge eating disorder. The difference is night and day, but I absolutely still have very bad days. Not as bad as I would be unmedicated, but I find my executive function can be a bit off some days and I’m not as efficient at completing tasks as I am on other days

Thank you!!! I work in a pediatric office and the amount of parents that think a little pills is going to “fix” their child, well heads up everyone YOU can’t FIX SOMETHING THATS NOT BROKEN they just hate how hyper their kid is and “can’t control it” no your mad that you no longer have a child that sits still and watchs tv all day so you can sit on your phone. Its sickning

Love this! My mom literally said to me something similitude other day and I had to explain the same thing to her!! The example I used was of her taking diabetes and heart meds doesn’t make the conditions go away, that it helps manage them. She still didn’t get it!

It does help you focus a lot I'll say. But it still is hard to deal with.

I'm glad people like you explain this stuff. I wish someone had explained it to me better. But I was 4 when I was told I have ADHD. I've been told I'll grow out of it. Bs. Not everyone is the same.

The wheel chair example is something I used to explain adhd meds to someone about 1-2 years ago, seems that great minds think alike, I have just recently come across your content and am enjoying it. I was arguing with some ppl in yt comments who were saying that medicating an adhd child was abuse, and I arguing back with no, meds for us are like giving a child who can’t walk a wheel chair, without it they can still get around but not as well.

The biggest change I've noticed is that I can actually read when I'm on it

Thank you ❤ Many people still don't understand. This nails it.

My boyfriend's decongestant that he gave me a few months ago was one of many things that showed me I have ADHD, for those that don't know, Bronkaid is very similar to Adderall chemically (he takes it because of lifelong complications from a flu he had years ago).

I had a bad time with Adderall. For me, it was less of a wheelchair and more of a ride on lawnmower 😂

I get it…. But also, this is what we all deal with. Grow up. At some point, you can’t rely on the crutch that is your ADHD and/or dyslexia.

I honestly find studying in a quiet room on meds helps me concentrate. I had a friend who talked and I could still focus but I couldn’t retain as much as I wanted. So now I just study alone

I would highly recommend some good noise cancelling headphones like the Sony wh-1000 mx3's or mx4's can hardly hear someone talking problem solved.

I tried using the worksheet, but I.... don't remember what I was like before 12. Because I was severely bullied, I blocked A LOT of my childhood. But I do think I have ADHD

ADHD MEDS ARE ALKALINE. This is important to understand, because eating or drinking highly acidic things within a 2 hour window on either side of taking your ADHD medication can *neutralize* your meds. If you don't feel like your current dose is effective, especially if it's intermittent / aka not all the time, contemplate your diet. For a period of two hours before to two hours after, try to abstain from highly acidic foods & drinks, and see if that improves things. (You can still have your grapefruits and lemonades, coffees, etc, etc, just enjoy them at other times of the day!)
