Build a DIY Outdoor Table

A friend of mine needed a patio table, so Bob Barker and I decided to make it. This is an easy to make, but still nice looking project. We used only 2x6 cedar deck boards for the entire build. We will be making benches to go along with the table in the near future.

This is a really solid, straight forward build. It turned out beautifully!

This is the first table I have seen that is rock solid and will last a couple of centuries. A great centrepiece for the deck. I have bought the plans and will make this table for sure! Thanks for a great video.

I built this table about a week ago. I think it turned out well. The instructions and diagrams were very helpful. I used 5 coats of Spar Urethane on the table top and I'm hoping it last a little while. If anybody is thinking about getting these plans I say do it.

I just watched the "Build a DIY Outdoor Table" video on YouTube. This is the first time I've ever seen the "bead lock" joinery technique. I'm going to have to research it and compare it with dominos and other types of glue fasteners.

Nice job on the table.
A Tip for using the Forstner bit handheld is to make a guide for it by using a piece of flat 3/4" board and drill the hole in it on the drill press and then clamp or screw it on to the part you want to drill and use it to guide the bit without jumping around.

Nice job! And congrats on the new toy! I have the corded version and love it. It was one of my first festool purchases.
I highly recommend one of their dust extractors from the midi up. The ct 15 is a hard sell since it lacks the nice hose and no bluetooth feature. I have the midi and am very happy with it.
If you ever want to upgrade form the beadlock but don't want to spend domino money, consider the dowelmax or jessem doweling jigs. They're not like the cheap, junky jigs out there; they're precision made, very accurate and a fraction of the cost of a domino (even as amazing as that tool is). I went with the dowelmax because of the integrated clamping; no regrets.
Keep it up! Looking forward to the next one.

Good job. When gluing up I’d put some scrap boards over that soft cedar to keep from getting those clamp marks.

I have never seen tenon joinery and pocket holes on the same joint. Overkill?

Love the table! So much in fact, that I want to build one myself. Followed the link provided for the plans but did not see the outdoor table plans. Maybe they are not ready yet? Please pat Mr. Bob Barker (awesome name) on the head for me. He makes a great mascot!

Great job. The only thing i would do differently is to ignore the table top pocket holes and fastening. Table top is not going anywhere...plus you can install undermount blocks to avoid movement. But what this does of course is allow for easy transport (as u mentioned) and more importantly, seasonal storage for harsher climates.

Nice job, how much Total boat did you need for this table? (approximately) I need to refinish a table and I'm wondering if a pint suffice, thanks

I live in south California, and need a big outdoor table like this design. What kind of wood is better for long lasting but affordable, pressure treated wood? Thank you

On minute 4, what is that jig for the joinery ? I did not find it on your list. Thank you.

How is the finish holding up??? I have used Total Boat on a few outdoor projects and had negative results. Didn't last one season before it started cracking and peeling.

ohh geez i thought i could build a patio table by just directly purchase serveral board from homedepot and nail them together, it seems i gotta have to buy a bunch of tool first

Don't use salt it affects the glue

Nice table...not complicated joinery...but I wouldn't use the term 'easy' to describe the project. Loads of specialty tools, jigs, bits and clamps are needed which 95%of DIYer don't have.
