Ubuntu 23.04 Full Review - An Attempt was Made

Ubuntu 23.04, codenamed the "Lunar Lobster" is here, and along with it comes Linux kernel 6.2 and GNOME 44. While it's certainly nice to be able to check out the latest GNOME desktop, this release instead ends up being a good example of why non-LTS Ubuntu releases should generally be avoided.

I installed Ubuntu 23.04 on my computer for testing. The installation went smoothly, without any problems. By the way, this is the most beautiful version of Ubuntu, in my opinion.
Unfortunately Canonical wants us to use snaps, but it's good that at least they are improving their performance. Firefox snap opens quickly and is well integrated to the system..

Hi Jay, I haven't had any issues installing or using Ubuntu 23.04. It's been very stable and responsive on my laptop. Most of the reviews on YouTube have been overwhelming positive (including many of the comments on this video). I would recommend this release.

I prefer to use Kubuntu. I upgraded to 23.04 yesterday from 22.10 and had no problems. Considering some of the stories I've heard from people about upgrading Ubuntu releases, I was relieved at how uneventful my upgrade was.

Thanks for your honest review. I didn't have any of the issues you had. The issue I had was upgrading to 23.04. I ran into the black screen with the blinking cursor in the top left hand corner. I got around it by re-installing 22.04 but un-checked the boxes for full install, added software and propriety stuff during the installation. Once installed I updated everything and changed the software updater to receive updates for new versions and rebooted. The update went fine, no issues, then I installed the Nvidia driver. Working like a charm. It is a bit of a long way round, but everything is installed again and without any issues.

I guess YMMV. My installation went smoothly with no issues whatsoever and the desktop works as I would expect any non-KDE desktop to work.

I am running OpenSuse Tumbleweed (with KDE) as my daily driver distro for more than two years now, never reinstalled, constantly updated. Btrfs, automatic snapshots before and after each update with the option of a quick rollback if something goes wrong. So it's very hard for me to even think of another distro :o) ... But I like your channel a lot. Here I learned probably the most of my Linux skills. I'm still learning with respect. Good work.

Strange, i installed the 23.04 and did not have any issues as mentioned in your video. I dual boot in a Dell. Lenovo had issues with the older version..Ill keep watching. Love your videos and thanks for posting. Hope the team behind Ubuntu fixes the glitches others may have.

Fresh install, no issue here. The installation went smoothly and was over in about 4 minutes. Additionally, no problems have been detected using it since.

Installed on Asus Expertbook last week with no problems. I ditched snap and installed flat, it runs fantastic, and battery life is way better than Fedora 38 and Debian 12. Im staying here for a while.

For me is the best Ubuntu release ever. Not a single issue or crash since beta version. The most stable Ubuntu release I ever used. Even flatpaks launch a lot faster than on fedora. I change my buggy fedora second machine back to Ubuntu

i ma using this ubuntu 23.04..and i found no issues you mention...this is my second attempt to shift from windows 11...and suprisingly m quite happy till now...my nvidia graphic works easily....may be since i have high hend cpu and gpu thats why i didnt face any lag or issues...only complain is my fav extenion hide top bar is nor working...other than that its flawless and it looks beautiful with whitesur-gtk nord theme

I appreciate your honesty. At work I have to use Ubuntu. Now I'm glad I'm still on 22.04. At home I use Fedora, and I'm excited to try 38. Thanks for the informative videos, Jay.

In the last years, ubuntu does mostly cosmetics. It's a good distro, but it would be better with some convenience features.
For example, creating an USB-Stick Live-Ubuntu without additional tools. I've always a secured linux with me. It's a multitool like a Swiss Army knife.

Installed Xubuntu 23.04 minimal on an old laptop with i3 sandybridge cpu, and 6Gb of ram yesterday. No problem with Xubuntu so far.

I have that issues few hours after release and make movie about that, wrote comment on omgubuntu and Ubuntu installer GitHub but i was ignored.. now they released legacy ?? One big YouTuber have that issue 7 days ago in beta!

That's Nvidia nouveau error. Check logs - kernel nouveau red all around there. That's only on single Nvidia cards - on Intel/AMD GPU or only AMD GPU issue not showing.

You can boot in new installer and it work but in GRUB must be selected SAFE MODE.

I used new installer and also used upgrade feature from 22.10 to 23.04 . Tried to run to problems you described but I had no issues. I have PC that was previously built for Windows.
