We stayed in Rhodesia for 8 years and our son was born at the Birtenough Maternity home in Gwelo so he is a Rhodesian.
My husband was also called up for military service
His two brothers were regulars in the army.
Still miss the beautiful jacaranda trees that looked like avenues.😢😢

Gotta admit, for a country I never lived in nor have any connection to, I feel nostalgic for Rhodesia

I watched this and as a South African my blood ran cold because today in the year 2021 my beautiful country South Africa is sliding into the same pit as This once beautiful country did. It breakers my heart because I really love my country and dispite it's turbulent past it used to be beautiful too. 😭

Even with all the comforts and technologies we have today, the world seems a lot darker than it was then.

People used to visit Rhodesia to see the ruins of Zimbabwe, now they visit Zimbabwe to see the ruins of Rhodesia.

Wow, all that poverty, lack of food in the shops, bad roads, bad infrastructure, bad water in the taps - good thing the country was liberated and allowed to prosper to correct all of those things... Oh wait. Sorry, my bad.

We moved from South Africa to Rhodesia and left Rhodesia due to my younger brother who died in the SA army
We went back to look after my mother who was heartbroken.
Yet we. regretted leaving this beautiful Rhodesia.😢😢

A prosperous country . Working for change . Deserted by the western world . Namely Great Britain. Given to a tyrant. Changed to a name called Zimbabwe. Destroyed by that single tyrant who was knighted by the Queen. Great work world

Lived in Montrose, Bulawayo 1975-77. Completely changed my outlook on life. Remember the wildlife, the Victoria falls and Castle lager. We had petrol rationing and those endless days without any rain. Wonderful country full of hard working black and white Rhodesian Nationals. Those Memory’s will live with me forever.

That is Cecil where once a British photographer took pictures of Black people sleeping under the trees, and called it "Blacks massacred by Security forces in Salisbury"!

Rhodesia: clean and organized.

Zimbabwe: run down and broken.

100 years before this video, before Cecil Rhodes' expedition, it was a barren wilderness. No electricity, no farms, no buildings. A few thousand people eked out a subsistence existence.

A whole civilization was built up out of nothing in a few decades. That is extraordinary. I know it was racist, but colonialism in Southern Africa didn't destroy. It built from nothing. Millions more people were able to live there who'd have never been born if it hadn't been developed.

Who would believe 1974 is in the middle of a war. Everyone seems to be minding their own business going about their duties.
