How to use decorators caulk

Показать описание
Decorators caulk is one of the most useful of products when decorating. It can be used to fill any gaps which cannot be filled using a regular filler. Decorators caulk is flexible, available in several colours, can be over painted after just one hour and is very easy to apply using a standard silicone/caulk gun. Once the decorators caulk has been applied it’s simply a case of smoothing over the caulk using a wet finger (preferably using a weak solution of water and liquid soap).

Great tips as usual. Caulk is wonderful stuff, it makes me sad sometimes though as I feel we've lost some skills along the way. They didn't have this in the Victorian times so their workmanship must be excellent! Also when I've plastered a room ceiling and wall I run a Stanley blade at each corner and fill with caulk. Any house moves and this little trick keep the corners from cracking, as this is a weak spot even with scrim it will crack.

I think this is a good video.. especially the tip about cutting the nozzle... I always clean and keep the cut nozzles in varying sizes, then if you have a unfinished tube it can be securely re sealed with the original uncut nozzle.

Like the idea of the spray - you make the long beading look easier than it is - very informative -thank you -

Thanks for the examples, I have a few cracks around doors & windows and this video is of great help. I was worried at first thinking the house is coming apart at the seams. LOL

so it must be a good idea to keep nozzles for future use?? If you've already cut the nozzle for deep use it won't be suitable for thinner beading.

When you say soapy water, do you mean a spot of washing up liquid in water?

is decorators caulk the same as silicone sealant ? like you would use around sinks bath etc

Using a wet finger transfers bacteria from the hand to the caulking and could promote mould growth in the future. Use a product such as a clean lollipop stick wetting first with water.

Do you have to scrape out all of the old caulk first if repairing a crack?
