You also need to make sure it is paintable caulk! Very important.

Buy Frog Tape, it is green and prevents bleed through.

What this video doesn't tell you is that you have to pull the tape immediately before the caulk sets. Wait to long and it'll be a nightmare, don't try to do a whole room like this or you'll regret it. Real pro painters don't do this and there's a reason.

You can accomplish the same thing by painting the tape edge with your base color or even a clear matte topcoat. Much less hassle. Been doing it for years.

The other version is to take a devise, like anything, a spoon a knife blade, your finger nail an deliberately run it over the proposed painted edge. This make sure it has complete adhesion and doesnt leave that white edge that your caulk will leave...😅

You still have caulk under the paint & thin applications of caulk peels away. Looks good initially but won’t hold up.

The caulked surface on the edge will prevent paint to stick to it, thereby causing uneven painted edge.

Blew my mind! I've used the right tape and tried to remove it before it dried and still had issues... this seals the edge! Perfect! Thank you... I've been avoiding finishing painting a room and now that's not necessary!! 💕

Believe a lot of this comes down to the type of tape being used and how long you left the paint to dry

You can also use mod podge or probably elmers glue or polyurethane.

Hätte er mit der Grundfarbe(lila) gestrichen, statt Silikon, dann hätte es genauso funktioniert. Ein alter Malertrick, das habe ich mir auch abgeguckt.

you could also try rubbing your finger along the masking tape edge without the caulk...its a miracle.

They also make better masking tape now.

Dry brush the background color along the edge first. Any bleed through will be the same color as background

You pulled the tape at an angle on the first one making the paint drag in that direction. Also the second one you pulled straight up dragging the paint up.

When I have to undercoat a surface, I also apply the undercoat over the tape. This effectively seals the edges. I had to paint red features on white walls. No bleed! 😅
