Some people just cannot comprehend how much empty space there is in space. Plus seeing Star Wars and how they navigate asteroid fields really does not help either.

That's actually a brilliant example of how asteroids are literally leftover crumbs from the formation of the solar system.

If you lumped together all the asteroids in the asteroid belt, you'd have a big asteroid

Finally, an intelligent answer to a question.

Yeah so flying through the asteroid belt would look more like flying through a dust patch over the desert.

Space is called space because there's lots of... You guessed it... Space 😂

Another way to put it: If you were to land on any random asteroid, you would need a telescope to see the next closest one.

You would have to go out of your way to hit something in the asteroid belt.

Just to expand on the "Ceres" thing, 60% of the entire belt is contained in four objects: Ceres, Vesta, Pallas, and Hygiea. Also, the belt is tipped 20% relative to the orbits of Earth (the "ecliptic plane"), so 93% of the objects in the "belt" (read doughnut) are never "in the way" when we launch except for two weeks out of each year.

There is so much space between asteroids that when planning exploration missions that go through that area they don't even account for asteroids when they calculate the tragectory they are going to take.

The odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field are approximately 3720:1!

People don't read anymore or calculate. So I want to thank you. Hope you viewers all learned.

Admittedly, I thought your math must be off (4% of the moon) when taking into account Ceres... but you are correct.

As your zooming though space they are zooming along with you, all perfectly aligned and never change it's positions lol

I'm reading Deaths End, and they address the Oort Cloud in a similar way.

Space is BIG
