Yes... by default you set a single SSID in the controller software that applies to all APs. You can override the default on a particular AP if you desire, of course. And according to Ubiquity, it IS supposed to allow seamless roaming between them, but I've not actually tried it in practice.

Can this be used as a wifi range extender?

In my case, the range has been great. I replaced a old Linksys wireless B with range extender antennas, and this blows the socks off that. I am able to connect from about 200 feet away inside another building on my property. So it's going through a wall, across the open air, and then through another wall. It is still a rock solid, full speed connection at that end.

If I understand your question, the answer is yes. This simply adds wireless to an existing wired network. It can be plugged into any switch on your network.

Does the orientation when you mount it make a difference to the coverage?
I'm looking to mount one vertically on the side of the stairs, does the front of the unit (with the light on) need to point in the direction where most of the users will be?

Thanks.

Thanks for the video. I work downstairs in large building. I have wireless modem downstairs and plan on running ethernet upstairs and connecting to the Unifi AP. Another building is about 100 feet away and no internet. If I buy another AP and put it in the other building can that new AP communicate over wireless to the main building's wireless? Suggestions? Thanks

Thanks for the video! I am installing one of these today. Will the standard setup that you showed, with the access point plugged into a router allow access to other computers on the existing wired network? What I have is a small office that has a 4 port router/modem connecting to the internet, the router (and computers) are connected to a switch. My plan was to just plug in the new access point to the router. Does this seem correct? I just want to be sure the wireless devices can access the wired devices on the current network. Thanks again!

Hey, congrats for the video, but I need some help. I'm having a problem accessing the configuration page, it appears as if he had not found the AP when I do a search on AP detection program it appears there. any tips? I have to set something in IP or DHCP?

How would I set up multiple Unifi APs in a big house for 50+ people? Do they work effortless with each other or does it require a lot of configuration? Also, do I need a router with the APs or will a large enterprise switch work?

FYI:  Ubiquity sells their own POE switches called ToughSwitch.  5 and 8 port versions, not all that expensive and work well, I have 6 ToughSwitches and have ordered 10 more.  I have approximately 200 UniFi APs in use at work.

Great Video. One question.  Do you have to dedicate a PC for the controller software and does it have to be running all the time?

A couple of questions...

I am cataloging my property and including MAC addresses & Serial numbers.

I cannot find a serial number on my Ubiquiti UAP access point.

Also, my toughswitch POE router is missing the serial number, in addition to having too many characters in the MAC address... Please advise.

You state in the video that the POE adaptor is proprietary. I wanted to let you know, They support the POE standardized specs. Though the provided adaptor may not support all POE devices due to possibly being under powered.

Edit: I need to correct myself. Only the PRO and AP-AC version are standards compliant. The base model and the LR model are not standards compliant.

Thx for the video. My question is, All Unifi devices support the roaming functionality where if you move towards the antennas, I won't have to reconnect to the other AP ?

Great Video thank you Bernardo.
I have done as per video (Doumloaded sw. and installed etc.) but my access point wont adopt.I get as far as 5:52 in your Video. The AP stays Constant Orange and wont Adopt.Model UniFi AP-LR   Version  2.4.8.2200.I tried a Static IP. with the subnet and I also set the DNS Servers as per my Router. I can PING the AP ok .

I have Unstalled and reinstalled the Software and Reset the AP.

Could i setup the same SSID across multiple AP's? So if I'm walking from floor to floor it will stay connected?

thanks for the nice tutorial, but i am failing to assign the AP a static ip address, also i want to make use of these aps without connectivity from the switch but just boost the signal from another ap but i cant find it but on brands of aps its easier

Thanks for this clear and concise video. Does the "controller" software and PC need to be constantly in contact with the network. Can't the PC be removed once the programming is complete?
