Hi Guys,

I decided to try and improve my wifi network at home by installing this Ubiquiti AP AC Pro. As an "Enterprise" device my expectations are pretty high ........ does it live up to them?

Watch the video and find out :)

Thanks for the video! Also, here in Austraya* each time you call it a "rooter" we think it's a device that roots (or screws/breaks) stuff. Its hilarious listening! We say router, phonetically like saying our or ow ;-)

The light can be disabled if choose to from the from the software configuration options. I use a single one of these access points in my house and I like to leave the light off. If you are using multiple of these devices in a well lit or high ceiling business environment the light is probably less intrusive and useful for trouble shooting.

I find the thing pretty easy to configure though it has a lot of nice options if you dig around in the software a bit. You can even have each AP give a detailed scan of the RF environment and there is a beta supporting deep packet inspection. You can rename and track each client easily and all the settings are saved after the one click firmware updates. This is much better with large number of clients, file transfers, and game streaming via Steam or Nvidia Shield than my 5GHz 802.11AC Trendnet router. Overall i'm very pleased with device.

I am agree with your points specially Ruckus-AP is expensive. Thanks for replying. Actually I am planning to buy 'UAP-AC-PRO' for a School and Each user having iPad; user will be used streaming tools/materials.
iPad support both 5ghz wireless and 2.4ghz band. UAP-AC-PRO (or higher AP) is sufficient for 40-50 users per Access Point.

Thanks.

Thanks for the video. One question though, what is the power output of the 801.3af PoE adapter? Misplaced mine and I have a bunch of adapters with power outputs that range from 15V to 48V

It woks on Linux and Windows. Has a Option as a Docker Image on a NAS. Than you have a Guest Network with Tokens for 8h to 1 Year acces.. Very Smart Device and it is not expensive if you see you make 1 installation and it works and works and works. We use ist with 4 AP with 4 VLAN Controlled Networks and Cover 400 m2 office with Steal Beton Walls. We use POE Switches, Gateway and the Cloud Key too, than it is a good Setup.

Thanks for the video!
I want to install the UAP-AC-PRO in my home as well and Im a bit worried about the transmission power and the radiation it emits.
I dont have a big house its about 80Meter (262.467f) and I was just wondering if the 22dbm transmission power is not too much for a home? I'm planning on installing on the on ceiling which is 2.2M height (6.8f).

I'm just worrying if the radiation is not too strong for a small house?

Thank you,

How is the performance and reliability now after this long? Would you still recommend it? Do you know if the passthrough port provides POE too or just data passthrough?

What's the area you're serving with it and are there any walls or obstructions in the way of the signal? Do you get signal across floors and does it reach outside (like garden or pool area? Thanks :)

Awesome video! What's the square meter range for this unit? And do you think one of these this will fair well through cement walled rooms in a 100 sq m 1 story home or should I get 2?

Does the software you're running only need to be installed to configure the device? Or does it have to be constantly running on your network in order for the device to work?

What is the top speed over wifi you get?

My experience with the AP AC PRO is similar to yours. I am using it as an alternative access point with Technicolor TG582n router, which was provided free with my SSE Broadband package in the UK. Both speed and range are only marginally better when I place it by the side of the router. However, the ability to reposition it away from the router gives much better performance wrt range. I have placed on a window sill about two metres from the router. This enables it to reach a RING doorbell/camera (that previously required a powerline extender) and all of the bedrooms in the house. So this single access point will replace the original access point incorporated in the router plus two extenders. Using the Sweetspot App on my phone (that measures wifi speeds, within a network) I get a speed of about 170 Mbps on the 5 Ghz channel whilst holding my phone about one metre from the AP-PRO. This contrasts with an advertised speed of 1300 Mbps. 170 Mpbs is OK because I live in a remote country location and can only get 20Mbps download speed through a phone line. But, suppose I transferred to Virgin, who advertise a cable download speed of 213 Mbps. Would the Ac-Pro up its game? Or, maybe I am using the wrong ethernet cable. I am currently using 5e. It's fun experimenting and so I shall carry on.

how many devices can connect on 2.4G at the same time. and can this router be suitable for smart home that most smart devices support 2.4G only.

Hi, could you make a video about how it is working after installation ?
I want to buy this version but i am not sure because i have Ubiquiti UniFi AP and it has bad performance(with 4 clients it does not want go more then 80mbps total) and likes to crash (i need to restart it by disconnecting cable)

Those cables aren't "high duty". They are shielded(FTP). Assuming your entire cable network is connected to earth. that shield will remove interference. So if it doesnt get connected to earth, one place or another. A standard CAT6 cable would be good enough.

Informative tutorial
I'd be nice if you'd make tutorial on Nano station, which also happen to be Ubigquiti

If I wanted this access point in my room, but the router is on the other side of the house, would it still work?
