Thanks to Just Stop Oil I now don't turn off the engine OR idle. I rev the F out of it when standing for extended periods

they 'used' to say that turning off lights cost MORE to restart them, too.

You will NEVER save enough gas, to pay for a starter.

Someone has never had to sit in 100 degree heat and it shows.

Yeah, save $10 in gas, spend $1000 replacing the starter after 40k miles. True story.

Depends on the car and the extent of time.

Starting your car wears the engine out quicker keep it idling

And what does a new starter motor cost?

Idling better for your car in general. Especially talking about old cars.

For example the accumulator recharges while the engine is working, if the engine is shut and there is some short circuit, then accum will discharge fully.

Nah, it's too hot for my baby sitting and waiting for me in the truck

go figure why the same jet turbine engine can run 10000 hours nonstop in a powerplant vs 200hours in a jet.

Bollox, if the lights change in 10 seconds the starter motor consumption will create inertia on the battery the alternator will have to compansate slaving the engine for more time to recharge.

nah id rather keep the engine running and feed the trees. ill do what i want zoomer. take your prius and shove it

depends on the car, for home-workplace trips i drive over 20 y.o. seat ibiza with 3 cylinder 1.2 HTP and if i turned off the engine on every red light, the engine and battery would be competing which one fails within two weeks lmao

Restarting is bad for your engine internal parts.

I hear so many people doing this at every red light they come too. Its so dumb.

Yes, it saves a large 🥤full... but in the meantime, you are wearing out your starter and causing pre-wear on all the electronics and lights!

its not about fuel consumption lol. try to turn on and off your light every second, how long the bulb will last. 0.6l per hour is nothing i can get that back when driving by not going pedal to the metal anytime.

Idling is better from an overall cost when you include the wear on the starter, but in general idling only saves fuel when you're coasting down a slope as your engine gets backfed rotation from the wheels when you coast with an engaged gear. You can check it out for yourself by coasting down the same road on neutral or in gear.

Also, slowing down by downshifting is pretty neat, you basically use the engines resistance to slow yourself down, so long as your engine doesn't exceed safe RPM or is abnormally hot when you do this you should be fine.

The crank kills your car. Leave it on idle
