partial derivative of (x2 + y2 + z2) is 2x and we'll be left with 3x * |r| in the numerator, how come it's 3 x^2?

I have a question. At 2:30, where does the i_hat, j_hat and k_hat take of to in this equation? Shouldn't it be: (du_1/dx)*i_hat^2 + (du_2/dy)*j_hat^2 + (du_3/dz)*k_hat^2) ?
