My GS is trained. That said, she helped three burglars find the desire to go home immediately. I sent her, and right before she entered the vehicle window, I recalled her as they decided to leave. 😂

Our giant was the runt of the litter and she is currently 90 pounds and a year and a half old. Her father was 110 pounds. She is like having a toddler in the house again. If she is being quiet then you need to find her. And she can't go out to pee without a toy in her mouth. She panics if she can't find one. Our backyard is littered with stuffed animals because she forgets to bring them back in.

They are the best dogs ever. They are also great family dogs. Yes, they are strong and big and need to properly trained but this applies to any dog if one wish to be a responsible owner.

I just lost my Giant Roscoe and he was my first dog. Yes, just need to be firm and willing to train. Both you and the dog. Roscoe was 127# at 5 years old. He lived to 11. So, ya, a large breed but alot of fun.

Maybe it's how they worded it. But every dog should and needs to be socialized. No dog is born able to calmly maneuver any and every environment or people like being loud or walking by or running by.

To anyone even thinking about getting a GS. Take heed of this video. This is the cold truth not click bait. Our male GS is nearly 6 years old so I know what they are all about. We’ve had other dogs before. Loads of exercise every day, very smart, gets bored very easily. Eats a lot (our has raw food). Very demanding of your time and attention. Think of them as a big heavy hairy toddler that you cannot leave. All that said I love mine to bits. Not an easy dog though.

Had one years ago, they are a terrier mind trapped in a large dog body. They require a lot of attention and it’s hard to tire them out. They do, make good guard dogs naturally, speaking from experience.

Informative video. One thing: the ad at the beginning of the video for food had a shot of some beef cuts posed with onions. Onions, like all alliums, are toxic to dogs.

I agree with almost everything you said about Giants. I've had three now, they are HIGHLY intelligent..They do get quite attached to the primary care giver. Don't worry if you already have a cat in your home, they think cat's are dumb. But be careful about strangers on your property if you don't socialize them. All of ours were boy's, ranging from 90 lbs to 115 lbs.
Breaks your heart when they pass away. They truly are a family member. Don't think you can have them in a large size kennel, one of ours was potty trained in that, and he could open the gate with his teeth and paw.
Not for First time owners, without having a stern handle on it. They love water. I miss mine still...

I love my giant, and he does shed a lot. I got him when he was 2. He is now 5 years old. Hes 88 lbs. Great watch, dog. I take him to doggie day care because I work. I would definitely get another one. Great dog.

Okay for loneliness/separation anxiety due to the long work schedules most people work does a second dog help or do they just get good at tag teaming destruction?

My Giant is an amazing family dog. Lovable, ruff and tuff, and mischeivious. He hates storms, and actually chewed through a wooden door when my wife and I was at work. I cannot however, brag on my dog enough, easily trained, and always in tune with his family and surroundings. Naturally protective, some people say dogs are only protective when trained, this isn't true with the GS, he will protect his family if he senses danger. Be watchful of them around children, because they dont know their own strength, and can easily knock down a 200 pound man without effort. They want to be with you at all times, but do have a mind of their own, and will take charge of a unexperienced owner. My approach to my GS was never through yelling or hitting, (this is a huge NO NO), I've always used repetitive training, love, and shown devotion to his needs, in return he has become a wonderful pet. A super domineering owner can turn this dog into something to be feared-so understand the GS won't take to cruelty and become timid, but will become offensive because thats their nature. My GS is my best buddy, I'd recommend this dog to anyone who has experience with large breeds.

A couple more things I did not seen this video
They are very prone to same-sex aggression
They are a high Drive dog with a high prey drive
They are hypoallergenic breed
Depending on bloodline, you can get a very different coat type
Show quality is much more suited to being a pet, then working quality
Daily brushing, and haircuts once every two weeks

Also, the sizes that he offered are out of standard
For a male they average 28 at the shoulder
Females average 24 at the shoulder to 26
The average weight is 80 to 90 pounds anything over that is considered oversized anything under is under sized
They are amazing guard dogs amazing if you want to get into bites sports
Amazing sport dogs, especially search and rescue

Mine is obsessed with swimming. I took him to a dog pool the other day. While we were waiting he could only here the splashes and started crying. Once trained, what a dream dog they can be ❤. I'm getting a poodle puppy in a couple weeks (just worked out with a friend) just for my boy to have a companion while I work. Soccer and walks are enough on some days but not enough every day. I will say I'm glad i didn't let all of this scare me as a first time dog owner but training is a must.

We have a rehomed neutered male that’s about 22 months old. I’m cleaning his face about four times a day. I love him already! The reason we have him is because his former owners did not have sufficient time for him. This breed needs you and they are snuggle bugs and Velcro dogs. He his definitely NOT for a first time dog owner. They need a lot of attention, exercise and time.

I've had my boy for 3 years now. Love him to death. I would certainly get another but I would never recommend the breed to anyone. Sounds odd doesn't it?
Several joking comments about how often narrator says "strong". It can't be understated. He's 100lbs of lean muscle but the force multiplier is the 'strong' will as well. And his goofy awkwardness can't be understated. They don't know how strong they are and can be like a bull in a china shop. If you own a GS, you're not allowed to own nice things. 😄

They're basically a wooly Doberman pinscher.
