This video was excellent. Found it really helpful, with a good selection of photos to show clearly how it’s done. 👍

Hi Sam would you usually back butter the slabs? I'm laying utility slabs soon, was going to brush on a bit of wet mortar or proprietory porous primer. What do you recommend? Cheers

Is the mortar additive a must ? If so what does it do ? I will however be using a mix of 6:1. Great video! will be following your steps 👍

Nice vid. Is it a must to use mortar? Can you not lay them on sand without it?

Excellent work Sam your obviously an excellent tradesmen. One thing I do when laying those precast concrete slabs is I drench the back of them with water as I lay them, they bond much better I find when the back of them is wet . Depending on how long they are made when you use them they can suck the life out of the mortar very quick and lessen the bond between mortar and slab.

Also would you sbr the underneath slab before placing on mortar mix or some sort of primer?

I want to build a small patio next to me floating deck. it's only about 3x3m. would 50mm of MOT1/hardcore be enough? It's not going to be used as seating, mainly for the BBQ only only a couple of people at a time?

I sometimes find that when knocking down the slabs with a mallet the mortor tends to push up between the gap making a bit of a mess of the edge of the slab. Why is this happening?

Hi, is that type of base would be ok for shed ? Or concrete bed would be better? My friend told me slabs may sink after few winters....

I am in the process of planning a paving job at home and noticed that you haven't laid any sand on top of the sub base before the full mortar bed, is this not required?

Would you recommend using limestone 20mm aggregate as sub base to compact?

Hey thanks for the video. How did you know your fall for the sub base was at the right level, I couldn’t see string line, do you use pegs or what would you recommend? Thanks 🙂

The sand. Is it builders or grit for laying on?

Instead of using just sand and cement mix, would it be ok to have a 35% 20mm gravel and 65% building sand mix, also the builders is like 5yrs old, some weed have grown in it, but ive got them all out. I know you should not biological plant matter in concrete because it contains moisture, but this sand im talking about does look and feel like sand.
