Mark Brown, Pavestone expert landscaper, guides you through how to 'set the right falls' for your patio or paved area. It is important to work out how and where rainwater will drain off your paving. Pooling water on a paved area is hazardous and will leave unsightly dirty patches.

Every project, you ever undertake, requires planning and none more so than laying a patio or paving an area. It sounds obvious doesn't it? Yet so many just start to pave. Planning and preparing will make the job easier and will show through in the presentation of the final project.

We hope you enjoy this Pavestone video from our "How To.." range of videos and find it educational.

How do you get the correct fall on a L shapped patio?

Thanks for this. Very helpful.

i understand there has to be a slope for drainage. Hence the slope between the pegs.

But why then does the string between the pegs have to be horizontal? Surely that has to have a slope aswell?

I thought it needs to fall in two directions or is this only in certain circumstances?

Just to confirm 100mm substrate or ballast followed by 40mm sand then the width of the slab…

Is the width of the slab standard & how mm is it?
