Not related to the video but John is looking a lot healthier now. He used to look purple but now he has a healthy complexion.

I use to train after work and it was very hard to get motivated. I now train at 5am before work and have been doing so for years and its much better for me mentally!

Damn John is going beyond nutrition and training and he's talking about mental stuff, now how many coaches do that
Also the fact that they used 70% of their 1RM on SQUATS in the first study shows how much they care about how legit the study is, props to them

When I worked for a boss, I took a cold shower and a prepared meal at home after work, followed by a 60 min nap. That helped me to reset my mind and hit the gym in an energetic & focussed mode.

For me;
1) Cystic Fibrosis might not allow me to train tomorrow, so I get it today.
2) with press exercises I imagine the Dr's wanna trap me inside the hospital and I push them off me.
3) pull movements, I imagine myself hanging off a cliff with pull-ups or simular movement.
And imagine someone I love being trapped under something when I do deadlifts or squats.
I imagine myself being old and weekened by the CF and that it's a weight that I used to lift when I was younger...

THIS brings up pure, raw power...

It's all a mental game, as John will explain much better then me :p

Precisely one of the reasons I hit the gym before work. I don't have to be mentally or physically tired. I don't have to use an alarm so I am awake anyway, so why not hit that gym. I do agree with the accountability of having a partner tho. The intensity is always better with someone else there. Love the video John! Thanks man! God bless you and your family! 🙏🇺🇸💪

As a university student of mathematics, I relate to the first point A LOT. I also found that training very hard made it difficult to perform cognitive tasks for a few hours afterwards. Though this might have been because of low brain glycogen since I was not supplementing with simple carbs at the time.

Training through mental fatigue - influence of having a spotting partner - mind/muscle connection: this is some advanced level stuff. Thanks John. So important, especially right now with people so mentally fatigued and some discouraged. I almost always feel so much better after I have had a good workout session.

I remember from another video you made a while that was so helpful to this point; to think of training as your personal sacred time. A time fully without distractions and your mind is engaged and committed 100% to that hour or two. That’s helped me and also having a personal ritual where I drink an electrolyte rich drink to hydrate (sometimes hydrating mentally combats “feeling drained”), get some music going on the way to the gym and a little caffeine boost all kind of tip me off with a little energy.

I wish I had a training partner. Unfortunately none of my close friends are available or interested. Seems like it would help bigly.
