Dude, thank you so much for this. I've been struggling with the video editor in blender for a week, and actually had to delay a homework assignment because I couldn't figure it out. blender so far is fun and awesome. Haven't had it long though, I hope to make a full movie with it someday though.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If your audio and video are out of sync, something I didn't notice right away is that there is a grey button at the bottom right which probably says "NO-SYNC", click it and select "AV-SYNC" and that will fix your playback issues. For some strange reason mine was set to no-sync by default which seems like an odd setting. You can also go to preferences->system and increase your cache which can help.

Cool, the way shortcut keys in Blender are consistent between editors. Hide, Duplicate etc - so yeah, Blender has a ton of shortcut keys, but once you learn a few, you get plenty of bang for your buck, so to speak, when opening up other parts of the program.
