I am Scandinavian-American, but I speak Russian and have studied Russia most of my life enough to get this crap too! People sometimes still call me "commie" or "comrade" and I get accused of being angry when I speak Russian even if I am saying something nice!!! I sing Russian songs at the karaoke bar sometimes just because these silly people need to get used to the sound of some other language than their bad American English. )))

I never heard you directly deny the bear thing so I'll assume it's true. :D

I’ve been learning how to speak Russian for close to half a year now, and I’ve been trying to immerse myself in as many things as possible (Russian books, news, websites, songs, and clips related to culture/ language/ etc). I greatly appreciate your time and enlightening perspective based on the reality you’ve lived firsthand. Спасибо, и ну тогда до свидания!

This was so good!! Even though the stereotypes are wrong, hearing you say them was really funny! I want to tell you my favorite stereotype that a Russian friend told me about. She said that in Russia, when people are on the show Who wants to be a Millionaire that when the contestants poll the audience they will deliberately pick the wrong answers so that the player will lose!

I am from Atlanta, in the American South, and when I went to college in Illinois people there asked me if I wore shoes to school back home. Americans stereotype other Americans, too.

Why do so many people, including CRD, add a t to the end of the word borshch? I can't find a single spelling that has a t anywhere in borshch.
