I have listened to a lot of photographers on youtube. I have to say you are amongst the very best. Lots of plain talking, not getting too complicated, or technical. Excellent!!

Even though I can nerd out with the best of them, I love your simple, straightforward approach to something that could have gotten nerdy very quickly. I feel like I’ve gotten a great education on the R6 and RF lenses through your videos. Thanks KJ!

The eye tracking tripped us up too! For weddings we use the face tracking and reserve the eye tracking for seniors and kids in the studio!

For those that say that using the viewfinder is "a thing of the past", it just gives you mor stability, I love using EVFs.

Katelyn, you are nice, funny, direct, no nonsense and extremely informative. You hit the points that people have the most questions about. You are not constantly trying to sell people unnecessary equipment. I had a feeling that you were going to buy at least one RF lens. Your thought process for not replacing all of your lenses is sound. Keep the formula that you have you are doing an outstanding job.

Great video! I agree with all your points and got the R6 instead of the R5 as well (for all the same reasons). I also made the same mistake at a wedding with the low shutter speed, like you not realizing I went down so low and had a couple blurryish images. I found a setting in the "orange" menu on page 2, to set the range on the shutter speed so I won't accidentally go down that far again. For me I never need a shutter lower than 250 so it works. Thanks again! Love your videos!

Your perspective is very valuable to me. I’m considering the R6. I’m not a full-time pro, so the R5 seems way too expensive for me. And, as a graphic designer, I’ll second your comment on MPs. When designing for bus wraps, billboards and the like you don’t usually need 40MP images, because the viewing distance is much, much greater than a framed photo or album. Even 20MP works on a 30ppi billboard printout. It seems like many photographers make the mistake of thinking huge, outdoor graphics are printed at 300ppi. They can be, but usually that’s much higher than necessary for beautiful, sharp-looking images at really big sizes and long viewing distances. Thanks for your insights.

I got the R6 after extensive research (I have the Canon M50 and the Canon Rebel T6i) and am thrilled with how sharp it is even with the kit lens! I got some other lenses but haven’t even tried them yet because I’m so pleased with the kit lens.

I just got my R6 today and I immediately noticed the difference. I traded my 5DS to R6, bit of a stretch budget wise but I don’t regret getting it at all. I watched your videos before purchasing my R6 and I am now excited to do my next wedding gig. Thank you so much 😊

I have been watching your videos on the R6. I really really love how you speak in normal terms and not get all technical . I really appreciate it. Your videos are having me sold on getting the R6. You provide real life situations on how you use the R6 and I appreciate it. I have seen other videos about the camera and one in particular was good and the rest felt like a I was at a store.. Your video came on my feed and felt compelled to give it a go. I commented on one of your videos saying I have a 6D and going to something new as the R6 is so nerve wracking because it is so different and foreign. I really gather that you are very happy with the R6 🙂.

I’m just loving my R6 right now. Can’t wait to shoot my first wedding with. Congrats on the pregnancy!

All valid points. Practically, this review makes perfect sense. From the beginning, I never believed I could reliably use eye tracking on a wedding day. This just confirmed so many things.

100% why I went with the R6 and not the R5. R5 is better for video, but R6 is better in low light. Great video and real world experience.

Low shutter sound... Great call, I've got caught out the same as you did.

I was second shooter, helping a friend out and and he said, "You're shutter is so quiet, it's insane".

Only when checking back on a couple of shots during a break did I notice that it's a fraction OOF. It's so easy to get down to a low shutter speed and you get that cold feeling down the back of your neck.

Great advice on the channel from you guys.

I absolutely LOVED that you picked up a 28-70 f/2! It's one of my dream lenses too! I personally am prepping to get an 85 1.2 DS once my RF 70-200 2.8 is paid off, and I can't wait to have in my hands that little bit extra the defocus smoothing gives. As someone mostly interested in studio work, it's hard for me to get excited about shooting outdoors. Hoping that'll be that nugget of inspiration I need right now, quite like you said at the end shooting with the R6 has been for you!

But I seriously adore how pragmatic you're being with these decisions. I personally, on the other end, look forward to getting the R5s because 41-45MP isn't ENOUGH to get me excited. But it really is a total drag the idea of spending wild amounts of money just on MEMORY CARDS. With you on THAT for sure.

I also love your honesty about eye AF. People on YouTube really don't understand the pressure true working professionals are put under to get that shot. And as great as it is, there ARE limitations.

Just got mine yesterday here in the UK ! You cannot find one anywhere, online or in the shops ! I had decided to wait until after christmas to get my R6, I popped int o a local camera shop where I work yesterday, to find the RF 35mm 1.8 lens, to buy it for the R6 when I found one. The shop assistant went into the back of the shop to get the box for the lens, and came out and told me he had some good news ! Two had just arrived that morning ( with the 24- 105 mm lens ) . They had over 20 pre orders for the R6, but said if I wanted one I could have it! I was buying the 35mm lens for £430, but ended up paying £2850 for the whole camera with the lens ! It was dark when I got home, I was blown away by the EVF, but was suprised when I put my L series 70 - 200mm on the camera, it would not take pictures with it, I am going to try it again today, in full daylight.

Great to see a video review of the R6 for stills shooters and isnt hung up on the video functions. I think you’re touch & drag focus method is the right approach to shooting weddings because The eye tracking proponents never explain how you’re supposed to work that situation quickly when there’s a field of people moving around in front of you

Appreciated Tyler giving us an update on the video side of things. Very helpful. Also important to know about the eye-focus concerns. Totally agree about the importance of an EVF. I think some YouTubers who mostly shoot indoors, have disproportionately influenced camera manufacturers to drop it from newer mirrorless cameras. So thanks for making the case for EVFs.
