Great stuff! Another good reason to play cross is that the net is lower in the middle and the court becomes longer. So you you're less likely to hit out long or in the net.

Hitting with depth is a standard rule. However most players in the park arent close to pro level. I play recreational & most ppl arent that mobile. So ironically playing short is very often an advantage.
