Baseball trick play by catcher - Simply Awesome

Even better. Youth baseball catchers are key to winning games. If for no other reason than making sure balls don't get past them allowing a walk to become the same as a home run. But at the higher levels of play we some times get to see great youth baseball catchers in action. Here we see one snap throw to second base to catch a runner.

We always did this type of stuff when I played in high school. I was the catcher and lead the district in pick offs. Our best trick was a man on first and third. When the runner from first would take off to second, knowing I’m not gonna throw that, I throw it to short stop, making the third base runner think I’m an idiot, he runs home, short throws home, easy out. Had so many successful picks doing it. Was the varsity catcher all four years at high school. I tore my arm midway through my senior year and never played again. Wondering what would of been if I didn’t. Had scouts looking at me since my sophomore year..

What's more impressive than the play is the throw placement.

This the sign of a thinking athlete. Make a mistake, stay calm and cool, then fix the mistake. When I coached, I try to get the kids to realize they need to be thinking every second. Visualize before every play, what do I do if the ball is hit to me in this situation? Hustle and be on time is 95 percent of the game. ( Just as in life) You don't have to be a great talent to do those two things. And at this age above all else, have fun. It is after all a game.

Great play because it looks like the catcher is flipping it back to the pitcher. Not sure if that will work in a big field though..

I had a terrible arm as a catcher so I could never do this back to 2nd but managed to do it at 3rd a few times. There is a lot of smoke and mirrors that go into catching that even many ball players don't realize.
