Tara Brach - Healing Self-Doubt - 10/30/13

Siddhartha Gautama's last challenge before enlightenment was doubt, and to some degree, most of us live with limiting beliefs about our own worthiness and goodness. This talk looks at the tenacity of self-doubt and the power of mindfulness, investigation and compassion in releasing its grip.

I discovered Tara Brach through the Palouse Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction online course. Hearing her voice on the RAIN meditation that she contributed to that course was so moving that I sought out more. Simply reading these things is not enough for me...I need to hear it and then begin to incorporate it into my own thoughts and heart. This particular teaching was profoundly "on point" for me. I have much work to do, yet. Peace to everyone here and my deepest appreciation to Tara Brach for sharing herself with the wider community.

Tara has a way of talking to your soul, where all your thoughts You battle daily disappear and the way you have been operating seems silly. She puts things into perspective. When she talks it’s calming, and at least in my mind makes things make sense. She was meant to do what she does and my heart is completely open. I’m amazed.

Tara, thank you so much for this timely message.  I'm 59 and only now am I able get a glimpse of the mind's machinations.  I've been napping way too long.   Thanks for the wake-up call.   Peace.

Letting it go makes me think that I might confirm I’m right, that I’m not worthy. By keeping the thought of not being worthy I feel there’s a possibility I may be wrong, and one day I find out I was wrong in thinking that way.
Great questions you asked. Now that I’m working on being ok with the unknown I want to let this go and watch the magic that comes with not being afraid of outcomes. Thank you!

As a way of responding to some of the comments further down in this section, I feel compelled to say that I do not feel Tara is setting herself up as some type of Guru.I think the way these talks are delivered is very much based on a kind of person to person level, Like this is my experience and it might well be yours too, we are all human together experiencing these things."I have had self doubts, I have insecurities too" and this is a way that Buddhist practice and western psychology has come up with ways of dealing with and overcoming some of the universal problems of life.If you disagree then that is fine.i personally have not found anything but validation in watching these talks and they help you realise you are not alone in facing all these various insecurities and problems. It takes quite a lot of skill to deliver these talks in this calm captivating way and I am glad she has put them out there.
