What to expect for a cardiac catheterization

If you are coming in for a cardiac catheterization, we want you to know what to expect! In the lab, the doctor will thread a thin, hollow tube called a catheter through the arteries and veins to reach the heart. Then, contrast dye is injected through the tube, and X-ray is used to find out if you have any blockages. Treatments can range from medications and lifestyle changes to stenting or surgery. A physician assistant from the U-M Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center shows you the ropes. #cardiology #HeartMonth #heartcath #cardiaccatheterization #GoBlue #hearthealth

I had it done this week. Pain and discomfort are almost nonexistent. It's well worth it for the peace of mind.

I literally just had this done last Tuesday. It was a false positive, thank God. The worst part is laying in the bed after surgery for 4 to 6 hours.

I had this procedure done with the groin area 12 years ago and I don’t recall any pain and while I do understand that radial catheters I safer because they can control the bleeding, I am in pain and it’s been seven days since my procedure.😢

I got to get that Friday. Assuming I don’t need a stent. How long does the whole process take until I am out of there?

Yes I’m watching this cause I will be getting this done next week, prior to getting an open heart surgery to replace aortic valve, but just wondering why they sent me to do this before the real surgery

If you would be so kind as to answer a quick question.... is there an anesthesiologist in the surgical suite to provide the sedation during cardiac catheterization?

What does it mean when is says “sedation”. Cause I can’t. I can’t see the equipment or hear stuff or I’m flat into a panic attack. Doesn’t mean asleep ? Or like a xanex ?😮

I have known people that have had this done, and now have 40 to 60 bpm instead of 180 bpm!
