Since Windows 10 and ASIO4ALL seem to have crapped the bed with a recent update, let's take a look at an alternative driver for the Behringer UMC22.

Under the first heading, labeled "Behringer USB ASIO Drivers (For Zenyx Q502USB, Q802USB & Q1002USB Small Mixers)"

6 year old video, still helping folks in 2024. Thank you!

I can confirm that this method still works now in 2022 on the Behringer UM2 and is WAY better for low latency than ASIO4ALL.
Thanks for the tip! 👍👍

What a shame that Behringer didn't/doesn't include this working driver on their website. Thanks for this very helpful video - especially how to test for the best settings. Great job.

Thank you! Helped me to get rid of noise on distortion in GR5. This driver works pretty well.

Thanks for all this effort you put on making videos to help people having troubles with their recording stuff. I personally want to thank you because I just bought a U-Phoria UMC22 and I was kind of worried I've just wasted money on a hardware that won't be able to work properly because of a crappy driver.

Here I installed it in March 2023 and it made my UMC22 work. Previously it worked fine on my desktop but not on my notebook and both are running Win 11. Now that I put the drive in the notebook the interface works fine.
Thank you very much!

This alternative driver has saved my UMC22 from going in the bin. Latest December windows 2020 update rendered the old ASIO4ALL driver useless. I've tried everything until coming across this video.
Thanks very much :)

What's your thoughts on the Focusrite Scarlett Solo compared to the Behringer UMC22?
I'm using Windows 8.1.

Thanks for posting the link on the driver! I was getting ~15ms latency each way, now just ~3/4ms with the right driver (why is it so hard to find??).
I tried using the UMC22 as a pure input device and have my default out as WDM from the PC's 3.5mm to the hi-fi but my DAW/setup doesn't seem to like dual-wielding drivers and forces the UMC22 to use WDM drivers if WDM is handling the output device, so I caved in and am running the output from the headphone jack into my hi-fi & speakers, which is ok and all works great now. Thanks again bud!

I like mine well enough but I have to say if you want to go with budget gear then the UMC202HD is really worth the extra few bucks. It it 24bit-capable, and has a manufacturer-supported driver that actually works well. Julian Krause has tested it extensively, and it has excellent noise performance and not bad dynamic range. The biggest challenge with these Behringer interfaces is that it is harder to find them, at least here in Canada, and the price is going up. That said I do think the 16bit UM2 and UMC22 are fine for home use, podcast work, and video overdubbing. Their noise performance is fine provided you get your gain settings right, and this is consistent with Julian's EIN measurements. However, the UMC202HD is just so much better for so little more money. I find myself reaching for it the most, even though I rarely use more than one of its XLR inputs at a time.

You are a genius! My UMC202HD started making crackling noises when I bought a new laptop last year. Saw tons of videos and read blogs but I could never solve this issue. A week ago I downloaded the latest drivers made for Win 11, hoping the issue would have been solved, but nothing happened. Then I saw your video today and downloaded and old 2018 driver without much expectations and… voila!!! Problem solved! Thanks for the inspiration.

You were changing the "High Definition Audio Device" buffer size on ASIO4ALL, pay attention to what you have selected!

By setting the "Application Priority" to something higher than normal, you "tell" your OS to allow your program to use way more CPU, therefore resulting in way better performance (potentially getting rid of any clicks or popping noises).

As for the popping that happened externally, keep in mind Windows Media Player player uses MME, so the issue didn't really come with the drivers themselves but it probably giving higher priority to the DAW instead of Windows Media Player!

Could someone help me with this interface? When I connect my bass and open reaper or some other program I must turn up the volume to the gain to more than half for the signal light to turn on and only at that volume level can you hear it. if I put it in less than half the light does not turn on and you can not hear it :/
