What is a bicycle chain link?

KMC says one chain link is one set of inner chain plates, or one set of outer chain plates.

Shimano says one chain link is a set of inner chain plates joined to a set of outer chain plates by a rivet or pin.

Who is right? I agree with Shimano. It is impossible to rejoin/link a chain after taking out one pair of chain plates.

Let me know in the comment section below!

Tip: Bike chain half links do not work on narrow wide chainrings.

I appreciate this video very much. I just learned about using quick links and found out they can not be used on outer links. Beginner´s mistake, but in my defence the video explanations on Youtube are mostly made by guys that know how to use their hands and eyes but really their verbal skills in explaining bike service solutions to computer nerds like me are not on the same level.

I love your camera angle, where is the camera mounted?

I think the least confusing way is to just report the number of rivets.
